Product catalog summary
Introduction
The BS&B SmartSystem is a wireless communication platform designed to support various sensor types, including digital switch type sensors and both four-wire and two-wire analog sensors. It eliminates wiring costs between sensing and central control locations.

Operating Principle
Sensors connect to a radio transmitter, broadcasting sensed values or changes in state to a receiver, which then determines actions based on user programming. Up to 32 transmitters can communicate with each receiver.

Radio Frequencies
SmartSystem operates on license-free ultra-high frequency radio communication, offering frequencies of 902 ~ 928 MHz and 2.4 GHz, compliant with FCC and ETSI regulations. The 902 ~ 928 MHz option is recommended in the U.S. for greater range.

Reliability and Security
SmartSystem ensures reliability through two-way communication, heartbeat signals, acknowledgment requirements, retry modes, unique identity numbers, and unique preambles.

Operating Range
Transmitters operate up to one mile, with typical ranges of over 1/2 mile for 902-928 MHz and over 1/3 mile for 2.4 GHz. Range can be extended with a repeater module.

Components
  • Data Transmission Module (DTM): Transmits electrical changes of state, powered by a lithium battery or external DC power.
  • Analog Transmission Module (ATM): Transmits analog sensor output, supporting both four-wire and two-wire sensors.
  • Data Monitoring Module (DMM): Processes information from up to 32 DTM modules, featuring an LCD screen and keypad for programming and status monitoring.
  • Repeater Module (RPT): Expands operating range or circumvents RF communication barriers.
  • Data Receiving Module (DRM): Functions like a DMM but without display features, used with external control systems.
  • 4-Channel Data Monitoring Module (DM4): Supports up to four DTM or ATM modules, with upgrade options to a DMM.

External Communication
Modules include RS232/RS485 ports for external communication using Modbus protocol, with programmable relay outputs.

Installation Configurations
Modules can be installed in hazardous and non-hazardous areas, with specific connection types available for different power and communication needs.

Applications
SmartSystem is suitable for various applications, including level controls, temperature sensors, pressure switches, gas analyzers, and more.
