SmartDisk™ Wireless Sensors and Monitors

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The SmartDisk® Wireless Monitoring System is designed for pressure relief devices, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional wiring by using radio communications technology.

Operating Principle
The system uses a pressure event sensor connected to a SmartDisk radio transmitter. Changes in the sensor's state are broadcasted to a receiver, which can handle up to 32 transmitters.

License-Free Radio Operation
SmartDisk operates on ultra-high frequency radio communication without requiring user licensing. It offers three frequency options: 902~928 MHz for the Americas, 915 MHz for Australasia, and 2.4 GHz for Europe and most of Asia.

Operating Range
Standard transmitters have a range of up to one mile, which can be extended using external antennas or repeaters.

Multiple Zone Capability
The system supports up to seven zones, each with unique transmission frequencies, allowing for flexible and overlapping system configurations.

System Features
The SmartDisk system eliminates wiring, supports various power options, and offers a wide temperature range. It supports both discrete and analog sensors and provides immediate data transmission.

Communication Options
The system can operate as a stand-alone monitor or connect to external systems via Modbus protocol, with options for RS232/RS485 connections.

System Components
  • Data Transmission Module (DTM): Transmits sensor state changes wirelessly.
  • Analog Transmission Module (ATM): Transmits analog data wirelessly.
  • Data Monitoring Module (DMM, DM4): Receives and processes data from transmitters.
  • Data Receiving Module (DRM, DR4): Similar to DMM but without display features.

Installation Configurations
Modules can be installed in various environments, including hazardous areas, with appropriate electrical connections. Options include quick connect, conduit, and gland seals.

Conclusion
The SmartDisk system offers a flexible, modular approach to monitoring pressure relief devices, with extensive communication and installation options to suit various industrial needs.

SmartDisk System Components External Communication with SmartDisk System Data Transmission Module (DTM) The DTM wirelessly transmits the electrical “changes of state” of a pressure event sensor (e.g. Burst Alert® Sensor or pressure switch) immediately. The DTM may power most sensors using its integral replaceable battery (up to five-year DTM Module battery life). Optional external DC with Standard Internal Antenna power with battery back up or optional solar power can be used. A DTM can be installed up to 100 ft (30 m) from its sensor using shielded cable. All receiver modules are provided with...

Building a Wireless Sensor System The freedom of wireless technology gives SmartDisk the flexibility to adapt to local installation conditions. Up to 32 DTM or ATM transmission modules can be programmed to a single receiver. Using RS232/RS485, up to 32 receivers and user devices can be connected together with communication by Modbus protocol. The modular construction of the SmartDisk system makes application of the technology both simple and cost effective. Basic guidelines to follow are: All applications require one transmitter (DTM or ATM) per sensor (unless wired in series with DTM). All applications...
