MAX 2-POLE SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS

MAX 2-POLE SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS

MAX 2-POLE SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS

Product catalog summary
Introduction
BRUSH has positioned itself in the growing market for high-powered, variable speed synchronous motors for LNG and gas pipeline compressor duties. This is in response to the increasing demand for clean energy and the need to maximize returns from gas reserves. BRUSH has partnered with ABB to offer matched combinations of drives and motors for these applications.

Specifications
The BRUSH MAX range of motors is derived from the DAX turbogenerator range and is designed for motor duties. These motors range from 10 to 100MW with speeds up to 3780 rpm. They are suitable for the gas and steam turbine-dependent compression market.

Stator
The stator frame is made from mild steel and designed to withstand mechanical stresses. It features a core built from low-loss, high permeability electrical steel, with radial ventilation ducts. The stator windings use a resin-rich mica glass tape insulation system capable of operating at temperatures up to 155°C.

Rotor
The rotor is made from nickel chromium molybdenum alloy steel, featuring high conductivity copper/silver alloy strip windings. The rotor is designed to withstand high mechanical forces and is tested in an overspeed test facility.

Bearings
The motors use hydrodynamic cylindrical or elliptical bearings, with options for tilting pad bearings for specific applications.

Cooling
Cooling is achieved through air, either in open or closed circuit configurations. In harsh environments, a closed air circuit with a secondary coolant, usually water, is used.

Excitation System
Most motors are fitted with brushless excitation systems, featuring a rotating armature and a shaft-mounted rotating rectifier.

Features
The BRUSH MAX motors offer simple foundation design, minimal station components, factory testing, modular construction, and compliance with international standards like IEC and API.

MAX 2-POLE SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS-3

Rotor The rotor of a BRUSH MAX synchronous motor is manufactured from a one-piece forging of nickel chromium molybdenum alloy steel which is de-gassed and vacuum poured to obtain a uniform material which has excellent tensile properties. Axial slots, to carry the windings and for ventilation, are milled on the periphery of the body of the rotor. The rotor winding conductor material is high conductivity copper/silver alloy strip. 40MW machine with air-to-air heat exchanger for a desert application The pre-formed coils are inserted into the slots, each turn being insulated from the next. The class...
