G4 ICARUS Series 2 - Carbon and Sulfur Determination by Combustion

Product catalog summary
Overview: The G4 ICARUS Series 2 is a high-performance instrument designed for the simultaneous determination of carbon and sulfur in various materials through combustion analysis. It is particularly useful in industries dealing with metals, ceramics, ores, and other inorganic solids.
Key Features:
  • Combustion Analysis: Utilizes a high-frequency induction furnace for heating samples in a ceramic crucible, ensuring complete combustion with pure oxygen flow.
  • ZoneProtect™ Technology: Ensures clean combustion by preventing contamination and minimizing maintenance. It features a unique design that eliminates splatters and dust, enhancing productivity and analytical quality.
  • HighSense™ Detector: Employs UV-LED technology for SO2 detection, offering high sensitivity, drift-free performance, and a wide dynamic range.
  • Advanced Gas Flow System: Features a mass flow controller for precise gas flow, integrated dust filter, and chemically inert flow paths for high precision and corrosion resistance.
Principle of Operation: The sample is combusted in a high-frequency induction furnace with oxygen, converting carbon and sulfur into CO2 and SO2. These gases are then detected using advanced solid-state detectors.
Benefits:
  • Speed and Efficiency: Fast analysis time of 40 seconds with a complete cycle time of less than one minute.
  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of sample types, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ceramics, and soils.
  • Low Maintenance: Innovative design reduces the need for frequent maintenance, ensuring long-term stability and reliability.
Technical Specifications:
  • Sample Types: Inorganic, dry, any form or shape.
  • Sample Weight: 0.1 – 1 g (typical 0.5 g).
  • Carrier Gas: Oxygen with 99.95% purity, requiring a minimum pressure of 3.5 bar.
  • Power Supply: 230 VAC or 208 VAC, 50-60 Hz, 16 A, 2.7 kVA.
Conclusion: The G4 ICARUS Series 2 offers outstanding performance and usability for carbon and sulfur analysis, meeting the high demands of industrial quality control with its innovative technologies and efficient design.

G4 ICARUS Series 2 - Carbon and Sulfur Determination by Combustion-2

Simultaneous carbon and sulfur analysis by combustion The elemental content of carbon and sulfur within a material has a great impact on its physical properties. In steels, the carbon content determines properties like hardness, ductility, brittleness and magnetism and determines the actual grade of low alloy steels. Due to their impact on the material properties, carbon (C) and sulfur (S) are monitored along the whole production process. The need for fast and reliable CS analysis is not limited to iron and steel but also applies to ferrous and non-ferrous metals, their alloys, ceramics, ores,...

Principle The solid sample, placed in a ceramic crucible together with accelerator material, is heated directly using a sealed high-frequency (HF) induction furnace. The molten sample is combusted in a flow of pure oxygen. The pressurized oxygen flow in combination with Bruker's unique ZoneProtect™ ensures a complete, clean combustion without undesirable side effects. During combustion carbon and sulfur components in the sample are converted into CO2 and SO2. Traces of CO are oxidized downstream to CO2. These combustion gases are transported with the oxygen carrier gas for detection by advanced...

ZoneProtect™ -Clean, Fast & Efficient Combustion Bruker's unique ZoneProtect design ensures a long lasting combustion tube and virtually eliminates any maintenance on this vital part. ZoneProtect further shields the entire combustion zone against splatters and dust deposits and supports a complete combustion. Unlike conventional designs operating with a lance, blowing oxygen over the sample or using proprietary high crucibles with slow combustion, the innovative principle of ZoneProtect knows no compromises. The G4 ICARUS Series 2 with ZoneProtect™ combines speed and outstanding analytical performance...
