  • Port sizes for inlet/outlet and work ports are #10SAE (7/8 – 14).
  • Response times are 110 mS for unloader and 600 mS for section, with coil currents of 1.25 amp inrush and 1.00 steady state.
General Information:

The Series 38 electric sectional directional control valves are customizable for up to twelve applications per assembly. They feature electric unloading in the inlet section, maintaining low and constant neutral pressure drop to the tank. Spools are shifted by solenoid-controlled pilot valves, ensuring positive shifting and minimizing amperage draw. The Series 38 is suitable for high flow requirements, while the Series 36 is for low flow, and both can be stacked together.

Inlets:

Inlets can be configured for closed center or unloading, with options for electric or automatic unloading. The electric unloading feature uses a pilot-operated relief valve and a vent line, allowing for manual control during electrical failures.

Spool Sections:

Low spool sections offer open or blocked spools with spring centering. High spool sections include options for individual port reliefs and double locks. End spool sections are the final section in an assembly and do not serve as outlets.

Cartridges and Coils:

Cartridges and coils are specified for each section, with various options available for different configurations. Standard options include normally open and closed cartridges and 12 VDC coils.

Accessory Items:

Standard tie rod kits include rods, foot brackets, lock washers, and hex nuts, with a torque specification of 85 inch lbs. (9.6 N m).

Model Codes:

Model codes for assemblies are proprietary to distributors and are not descriptive. Examples of common model codes are provided for various configurations, including inlet sections, low and high spool sections, and tie rod kits.

Options and Accessories:

A list of options and accessories is provided, including various cartridge valves, coils, and kits for customization and assembly of valve stacks.

Specifications and Components:
  • Handle Assembly Kits: Available in different styles (X and Y spools) with options for light springs.
  • Port Reliefs: Area differential port relief set at 1000 psi, with increments of 100 psi available. Port relief cavity plugs are also available.
  • Outlet Sections: Includes standard and power beyond outlet sections, with specific requirements for N.O. cartridges.
  • Tie Rod Kits: Specify the number of spool sections in the valve assembly.
  • Current Steering Module: Simplifies wiring by replacing DPDT switches with SPDT switches.
  • Seal Kits: Various kits available for different sections and purposes, including high section relief, body locks, and inlet.
Pressure and Flow Data:
  • Pressure Drop vs. Flow for S36 Relief: Graphs show pressure drop in psi and bar against flow in gpm and lpm for different springs.
  • Pressure vs. Flow for Inlet Relief: Inlet relief set at 1 gpm with specific spring types.
  • Pressure Drop vs. Flow for Double Lock Section: Details pressure drop from one spool double lock section, with specific flow paths noted.
  • Neutral Flow Pressure Drop: Information on pressure drop for various spool configurations.
Dimensional Data:
  • Dimensions provided in inches and millimeters for various components and configurations, including the number of spools and their respective lengths.
Wiring Diagram:
  • Series 36/38 switch wiring diagram provided for a three-spool valve, with instructions for additional sections.
Valve Assembly Arrangement:
  • Details the arrangement of inlet/outlet, spools, cartridges, coils, and tie rods, with torque specifications.

SERIES 38 – GENERAL INFORMATION: The Brand, Series 38 electric sectional directional control valves are assembled to meet our customer’s requirements for up to twelve individual applications per assembly. Brand Hydraulics does not charge extra for this assembly process, an assembly is priced solely on the overall sum of the prices of its components. The Series 38 is available with electric unloading in the inlet section. The flow goes directly to tank in the neutral condition. Neutral flow does not pass through the spool sections; therefore, the neutral pressure drop to tank remains low and constant...
