Product catalog summary
Introduction
Bowman, a UK-based company, has over 100 years of experience in heat transfer technology, specializing in water-cooled shell and tube oil coolers. These products are designed to maintain optimal oil temperatures, thereby extending the service life of engine and transmission components. They are suitable for demanding applications such as torque converters and automatic transmissions, and adhere to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
Key Features
  • Easy Installation: Models often include end covers with hose connections for easy integration into engine coolant circuits.
  • Quick Warm-Up: The water-based design allows for faster oil warm-up, reducing wear, especially in cold climates.
  • Robust Construction: Bowman units are more durable than air/oil coolers and resist accidental damage.
  • Fully Floating Tube Stack: This feature allows for thermal expansion and contraction, minimizing stress.
  • Simple Maintenance: Removable end covers with O-ring seals provide easy access for cleaning and maintenance.
Product Selection
Bowman provides a computer program to assist in selecting the appropriate oil cooler based on parameters such as oil type, flow rate, required outlet temperature, heat dissipation, and cooling water temperature.
Performance Specifications
The document includes a detailed table of cooler types, specifying maximum oil and water flow rates, suitable applications, and internal volumes. For instance, the EC120-1635-3 model supports a maximum oil flow of 60 l/min and a water flow of 200 l/min, suitable for dissipating 75 kW of heat.
Installation and Maintenance
Oil coolers should be installed in the coolant circuit between the radiator's bottom tank and the engine's coolant inlet. The document provides guidance on maximizing heat transfer through counter-flow installation and includes details on servicing, such as torque settings for reassembly.
Applications
Bowman oil coolers are used in a wide range of applications, from construction equipment to marine engines, demonstrating their reliability in harsh environments.

Installing the Oil Cooler The oil cooler should be fitted into the coolant circuit between the bottom tank of the radiator and the coolant inlet connection on the engine. See illustration opposite. The radii of the coolant pipe bends should be as large as possible to reduce the pressure drop. Note: to maximise heat transfer, the oil pipe connections must be installed for ‘counter flow’ . Alternative Coolant Connections EC to GL oil cooler ranges are available with either In-line (axially) or right angled end covers. In addition to the standard water connections listed on pages 4 and 5, alternative...
