Charge Air Coolers

Product catalog summary
Overview
Bowman Charge Air Coolers are designed to enhance the performance of turbocharged marine and stationary land-based engines by cooling the compressed air from the turbocharger. This cooling increases air density, improving combustion efficiency, engine performance, and reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Specifications
Bowman offers a range of charge air coolers suitable for engines up to 570kW, featuring a 'shell and tube' design for precise temperature control. They are available in single and two-pass versions with cast iron or Naval brass end covers, and titanium tube stacks for aggressive water conditions.
Applications
These coolers are used in marine propulsion, power generation, automotive testing, and emergency fire protection systems. They are designed for reliability and high thermal transfer efficiency, requiring counter flow installation for optimal performance.
Performance Data
Performance tables provide details on charge air flow, pressure drop, outlet temperature, heat rejection, water flow, and engine power for various models. For example, the EC120 model handles 2.5 kg/min air flow with a 2.2 kPa pressure drop and 42.2ºC outlet temperature.
Installation and Maintenance
Installation requires the water outlet to be uppermost, and the units must not operate without adequate water flow. Maintenance is simplified by removable tube stacks and end covers, with replacement parts readily available.
Additional Products
Bowman also offers header tank heat exchangers, exhaust gas heat exchangers, engine and gearbox oil coolers, and fuel coolers, providing comprehensive cooling solutions for various engine types.
Global Applications
Bowman charge air coolers are used worldwide in diverse conditions, from cold Canadian winters to hot Australian summers, proving their reliability and efficiency in various applications such as marine engineering, power generation, irrigation systems, and active fire protection.

Reducing temperature. Improving performance! Bowman Charge Air Coolers For turbocharged marine and stationary land based engines Charge air coolers cool the compressed combustion air from the turbocharger. By reducing the temperature, the incoming air is much denser, enabling increased air mass to be supplied to the engine. The result is better combustion efficiency providing improved engine performance, plus reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Bowman offer a comprehensive range of charge air coolers, which are suitable for marine and land based stationary engines up to 570kW. Based on Bowman’s...

BOWMAN® Installation Bowman Charge Air Coolers must always be mounted so that the water outlet is uppermost (see diagrams below). They must not be operated without an adequate water flow and when used in conjunction with our header tank heat exchangers, they should be positioned in the circuit so that they always receive the full flow of the engine water pump. By simply unscrewing the end cover retaining screws, the tube stack can be removed from its outer ‘shell’ for routine cleaning and maintenance. On reassembly, it is always recommended that the ‘’O’’ rings are replaced to ensure a reliable,...

A world of applications Bowman charge air coolers have been tested and proven in some of the most extreme operating conditions around the world, from icy depths of a Northern Canadian winter, to the searing heat of an Australian summer, plus just about everything in between. Here are just a few examples: Marine Engineering In Portugal, Bowman FG100 charge air coolers have been used to convert two John Deere engines for marine use. The installation, on the Catamaran ‘Independencia’, helped reduce temperatures in the engine room from over 50ºC to just 25ºC. Power Generation In Canada, Bowman FG100...
