Specifications and Procedures
The document provides detailed specifications and operational guidelines for the Trig-O-Matic Lite and ORC Series mechanical overload clutches, designed to protect mechanical equipment by disengaging the drive when a torque overload occurs.
Operating Principles
The LOR Series uses a roller detent style clutch that disengages when a torque overload occurs. The ORC Series features a unique "Trigger" action design that disconnects the load at the exact torque limit set, with automatic or manual reset options.
Selection and Ordering
To select the appropriate clutch, determine the overload release torque using the torque formula or by identifying the "weak link" in the drive train. Consider bore size, keyway, and model type. Ordering requires specifying series, size, type, torque range, and unit bore.
Ratings and Dimensions
Detailed charts for torque ranges, bore sizes, and dimensions for both LOR and ORC Series clutches are provided. Maximum RPM and weight specifications are also included.
Mounting Arrangements
Suggested mounting arrangements include plate sprocket mounts and timing belt pulley mounts. Boston Gear offers assistance for various drive layouts and can provide additional components upon request.
Applications
The clutches are suitable for various applications, including packaging machinery, paper converting machinery, and conveyors. They replace less reliable devices like shear pins and friction clutches.
Additional Features
The ORC Series includes features like a torque selector dial, grease pack, and relief fittings. Optional features include pressure lube bearings and balancing.
