Developed by Bonfiglioli, this innovative hybrid transmission system for agricultural machinery (like sprayers, windrowers, etc…) can deliver many advantages and assure interesting benefits both to the manufacturer and the end user. Mobile solutions Electric motor spraying Pump Motor Auxiliary drives Battery pack Unlike conventional hydraulic solutions the diesel engine of this hybrid transmission system doesn’t drive a hydraulic pump but an AC electric generator which feeds a DC Bus through an AC/ DC converter. Therefore the DC Bus supplies the power used for all specific activities such as transmission (each wheel separately), spraying pump, auxiliary drives etc. by means of dedicated inverters and electric motors or electric pumps. An additional inverter may be present for the energy recovery into a battery pack during the vehicle passive working (braking or travelling downhill). This system’s main advantage is that under normal operating conditions, both the electric system and the diesel engine work at the highest efficiency while traditional ones only provide the highest efficiency when very high torque is needed. Installing a hybrid system allows to easily add functionalities to the vehicle: the possibility to drive each wheel independently increases the manoeuvrability and allows the pivot turn capability (minimum turning radius). Moreover it is possible to increase the traction control that becomes particularly useful in low grip conditions with the possibility of switching easily between 2WD and 4WD. The DC bus may provide energy for accessory systems (air-conditioning, fan motor, etc) without additional efforts; in overall terms the solution results cleaner (no risk of oil leakage and cultivation contamination) and more eco-friendly than traditional systems.
