The National Testcentre Circular Plastics (NTCP) in Heerenveen, Netherlands, completed in May 2020, serves as an independent test centre for open innovation aimed at closing the plastic loop. It features a 2 TPH PMD line designed by Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions.
The NTCP project involved the creation of a modular sorting facility to test and improve the recyclability of plastics from household waste. The facility allows each sorting step to be executed, sampled individually, or bypassed, providing flexibility for experimentation with new equipment and technologies.
The pilot line is equipped with a mobile tablet HMI for monitoring and adjusting parameters, enhancing flexibility and real-time observation of adjustments. The design utilized only 60% of the planned footprint, allowing room for future expansions, such as a washing line.
NTCP collaborates with brand owners to iteratively develop fully circular plastic packaging and improve recycling processes, focusing on purity and recovery rates. The facility incorporates advanced technologies from Bollegraaf and Lubo Recycling Solutions, including Drumfeeder, IFE Vibratory Screen, Nihot Windshifter, Overbelt magnet, Lubo Elliptical, Steinert NIR/VIS optical sorting unit, and the experimental Bollegraaf RoBB powered by artificial intelligence.
