Unilock Vol. 2 Modular Workholding System

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Unilock Modular Workholding System is designed to improve manufacturing efficiency through a zero-point clamping system, reducing setup time and increasing production flexibility. It supports both low and high-volume production, allowing quick job changes without additional setup time.
Specifications: The system includes various chucks (round, rectangular, pre-assembled) with specific models and applications. It uses heavy-duty die springs for clamping, requiring air pressure to unlock. The system ensures positional accuracy and stability with a low-profile design and matching taper wedges.
Procedures: The system operates by using spring pressure to clamp pins against a tapered knob, with air pressure releasing the pins for quick, repeatable clamping. It adapts to various workpiece conformations and can use multiple chucks for larger fixtures.
Applications: Suitable for vertical and horizontal machining, high-speed drilling, grinding, and lathes, the system allows workpiece transfer between processes without fixture removal, reducing scrap and improving accuracy.
Recommendations: Fixtures and workpieces should be adapted to Unilock clamping knobs. The system handles warped workpieces and accommodates out-of-position datums. Undersized clamping knobs are recommended for large or loosely toleranced workpieces.
Benefits: The system saves time by reducing multiple setups and clamping operations, enhancing spindle uptime and reducing part positioning errors. Its modular nature allows for custom solutions and easy integration into existing processes.
Key Models and Features: The document details various Unilock chucks, including ESM 138, ERGO 138, ASM 90, and others, each designed for specific applications. Features include air-assisted clamping, reduced height, and compatibility with turbo-assisted clamping for enhanced retention forces.
Dimensions and Installation: Detailed dimensions for each chuck model are provided, including bolt sizes, clamping forces, and air connection specifications, with diagrams for installation assistance.
Accessories and Components: Additional accessories, repair components, and air fittings are referenced, with specific page numbers for further details.
Setup and Process Reduction Kits: These kits allow job preparation while another is running, facilitating part transfer between operations without unclamping.
Clamping Knobs and System 40 Pallets: Clamping knobs ensure high accuracy and retention, available in various types. System 40 Pallets are compatible with various chucks, provided fully assembled with Unilock knobs.
Automation Chucks: These chucks use air pressure for holding during changeovers and clamping, with features like turbo assist clamping and air verification of pallet presence.
Multi-Axis Systems: BIG KAISER offers multi-axis workholding solutions for 5-axis machining, maximizing machine design benefits with components like Unilock zero-point clamping systems.
5-Axis Solutions: Various components and systems are available for 5-axis machining, including base plates, vises, and extensions, offering flexibility and strong clamping forces.
Uniflex and Mineral Cast Systems: The Uniflex system allows flexible positioning with clamping balls and collars. ROC® mineral cast solutions offer lightweight, stable platforms for machining applications.
Grid Clamping Pallets and Riser Pads: Grid clamping pallets are made with ROC® mineral casting for stability, and riser pads accommodate various vise brands.
Robot Interfaces and Accessories: Unilock systems facilitate robot interfaces in machining, with components like Twin Pin Gripper. Various accessories support Unilock chuck operations.
Service & Operating Instructions: A minimum air pressure of 75 PSI is required, with air filtered to a maximum particle size of 10μm. Dust covers and proper storage procedures are recommended to prevent rust and ensure longevity.

Unilock Vol. 2 Modular Workholding System-4

OVERVIEW How it Works Unilock utilizes spring pressure to drive multiple clamping pins against a tapered clamping knob. Air pressure is used to compress the springs to back the clamping pins off of the clamping knob. This clamping process is achieved by bleeding the air pressure out of the chuck. To facilitate palletization, the clamping knob is attached to a base plate, fixture or directly to a workpiece. The result is quick and repeatable clamping. A hand locking version (no air required) is also available. Features: • Clamping Mechanism: Heavy-duty die springs • Chuck Opening: Air pressure...

OVERVIEW SBC Knob Diametral Clearances Multiple Chuck Applications Unilock is not restricted to one clamping knob. When the fixture or workpiece exceeds the work range of a single Unilock chuck, additional clamping knobs and chucks can be used to provide the necessary support and stability required for the process. There are only a few limiting factors as to the size of an array of chucks or in the weight of a workpiece. Undersized knobs provide clearances for large parts or out of position locations. • SBA = Establishes centerline • SBB = Orients about centerline • SBC = Clamp only, no positioning...

OVERVIEW Process Your Way to Savings Fixtures and workpieces are easily adapted to Unilock clamping knobs. Tremendous savings are available if the fixture or workpiece can be reoriented or transferred to machine additional features while remaining attached to the Unilock clamping components. On horizontal machines with columns, fixtures can be rotated 90 degrees or moved to the top. Transferring fixtured parts through as many operations as possible eliminates additional fixtures and clamping/unclamping time. Less clamping and unclamping of parts also reduces scrap and improves feature-to-feature...
