Product catalog summary
Company Overview
BHS-Sonthofen, based in Sonthofen, Germany, is a leader in machine and plant engineering, specializing in mixing, crushing, recycling, and filtration technologies. With over 300 employees and a global presence, the company has more than 125 years of experience in mixing technology, having invented the first twin-shaft batch mixer in 1888.
Combimix System Overview
The BHS Combimix system offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional wet processing of clay-and-rock mixtures. It transforms the twin-shaft batch mixer into a continuously operating mixer, enhancing the mixing effect compared to conventional continuous mixers. This system allows for variable processing times and maintains a constant filling level, enabling efficient recovery of usable rock while reducing water, energy, and material costs.
Advantages Over Wet Processing
  • No moisture introduction into aggregates
  • No wet sieving or sludge water treatment
  • Processes entire material without landfill disposal
  • Compact and semi-mobile plant options
  • High recovery rate of usable rock
  • Sieving possible at less than 5 mm
Advantages Over Conventional Continuous Mixers
  • Continuous mixing with defined time, reducing quick lime consumption
  • Three-dimensional mixing concept
  • Consistent mixture homogeneity
  • High throughput rates and low wear
Process Steps
  1. Feeding of raw material
  2. Initial separation via roller screen
  3. Coarse grade processed through jaw crusher and gravel plant
  4. Clay-contaminated material mixed with quick lime in Combimix system
  5. Quick lime dispensed via screw conveyor with volumetric dosing
  6. Mixed material fed to sieving process
  7. Material >5 mm transferred for further processing
  8. Material <5 mm can be used as fertilizer
Performance Data
The Combimix system offers various models with throughput ranging from 85 t/h to 920 t/h, accommodating maximum particle sizes from 42 mm to 150 mm. Weights range from 3,900 kg to 37,000 kg, depending on the model.
Fields of Competence
BHS-Sonthofen's expertise spans mixing, crushing, recycling, and filtration technologies.

Function and application Previously, cost-intensive wet processing was necessary in order to extract valuable rock grade from contaminated input material. Dry processing with the addition of quick lime is not possible with conventional continuous mixers due to the extremely short processing time and poor mixing effect. An economical alternative has now been developed in the form of the patented BHS Combimix system. The Combimix system transforms the twin-shaft batch mixer into a continuously operating mixer with its proven threedimensional mixing concept. This enables a significantly improved...
