General Description
The Bettis DeltaMatic™ linebreak detection system is engineered to automatically monitor gas pipelines and send an instrument pressure signal if a predetermined rate of pressure drop is exceeded. This system is crucial for detecting pipeline breaks and signaling valve operators, ensuring safety and environmental protection in various locations such as populated areas and river crossings.

Operation
The system functions with the line valve open, closing it when power gas is present. Line pressure is applied to a differential pressure pilot and rate tank through a check valve. The differential pressure pilot compares line pressure with reference pressure in the rate tank, creating a differential pressure across a restrictor. This pressure is directly related to the rate of drop of line pressure, and the pilot is calibrated to vent a signal when the rate of drop exceeds a set threshold.

Calibration and Adjustment
The system's rate of drop setting can be adjusted by changing the DeltaMatic pilot's differential pressure setting. This may involve selecting a different spring, which can be changed and recalibrated in the field. The system can also be converted to a different nominal range by fitting a different restrictor.
