Introduction
The CBA-300 Series Pneumatic Actuators by Bettis® are designed for efficient and cost-effective automation of quarter-turn mechanisms such as ball, butterfly, and plug valves. They combine the strengths of the G-Series scotch-yoke actuators with new design efficiencies, offering a lightweight and compact solution.
Design and Construction
The actuators are built with enhanced water ingress and corrosion protection, meeting IP66 and IP67M standards. They feature a NAMUR mounting configuration for standardization, a quad-sealed torque shaft, o-ring sealed cylinders, and a stainless steel nameplate for traceability.
Operating Ranges
Double-acting models provide torque outputs from 7,388 lb-in to 20,337 lb-in, while spring-return models offer torques from 2,532 lb-in to 10,457 lb-in. They operate within temperatures of -20°F to +200°F, with optional trims for extreme temperatures. Pneumatic pressures range from 40 to 150 PSIG.
Features and Advantages
The actuators include a jackscrew option for manual override, bi-directional travel stops, and an ISO/DIN actuator/valve interface. They are constructed with all-bearing construction, Xylan™ cylinder coating for corrosion resistance, and high-strength springs with protective coating.
General Definitions
Key terms such as quarter-turn, position, CW (clockwise), CCW (counterclockwise), stroke, cycle, and safety factor are defined to standardize terminology.
Sizing and Selection
Actuator selection involves determining the type, power supply media, and supply pressures. The actuator's torque output must exceed the valve's torque requirements. Performance data tables assist in ensuring the selected actuator meets the maximum operating pressure requirements.
Performance Data
Detailed performance data for both double-acting and spring-return actuators are provided, including maximum system pressure, operating pressure, and allowable working pressure. Torque ratings are given for various operating pressures.
Specifications
The document lists torque ratings for different actuator models under varying operating pressures, in both metric (Nm) and imperial (lb-in) units, specifying start, minimum, and end torque values.
Dimensions
Dimensions for the CBA-300-Series actuators are provided in inches and millimeters, covering models with and without manual overrides.
Manual Overrides
Two types of manual overrides are described: the M3(HW) jackscrew and the M11 hydraulic manual override, applicable to both spring-return and double-acting models.
SIL-PAC Solution
The SIL-PAC solution is a comprehensive package for safety integrity level (SIL) applications, including hardware and documentation compliant with IEC, ISA, and OSHA standards, featuring an FMEDA report for SIL suitability.
Bettis Automated Packages
Bettis offers integrated solutions combining actuators, controls, and valves into a single system, compatible with Emerson's PlantWeb digital architecture and other automation solutions.
Ordering and Model Designation
The document explains the model designation system for ordering, including options for fail-safe operation and trim selections for different environmental conditions.
