Berner International offers medical face masks and filtering half masks. Medical face masks, such as the cleo® med series, are designed for infection protection with a bacterial filter performance of over 99%. They comply with EN 14683 standards and are classified as Type IIR. Filtering half masks (FFP respirators) are tested according to EN 149 and provide protection against particulate hazardous substances, with FFP3 masks offering the highest filtering performance.
Medical face masks primarily offer foreign protection and are used in healthcare settings, while FFP masks provide self-protection against airborne particles and are used in occupational safety. FFP masks are available in reusable and non-reusable options, with specific certifications for each type.
- FFP1: Suitable for environments free from toxic aerosols or dusts, with a filter performance of at least 80% and maximum total leakage of 22%. Used mainly in construction and food industries.
- FFP2: Used in environments with harmful substances, offering at least 94% filter performance and maximum total leakage of 8%. Protects against toxic dusts, mist, smoke, and biological hazards.
- FFP3: Provides at least 99% filter performance with maximum total leakage of 2%. Used in high-risk environments like laboratories, protecting against carcinogenic and radioactive particles.
Nanoparticles are prevalent in various production processes, increasing occupational exposure risks. Special test methods developed with the University of Milan show BLS masks can retain over 97% of nanoparticles, exceeding EN 149 requirements.
Eye protection is crucial in laboratories to prevent damage from chemicals, pathogens, and mechanical effects. Certified safety goggles according to EN 166 are essential, offering comfort and protection. Models like super fit CR and ultrasonic CR goggles provide panoramic views, anti-fog coatings, and are autoclavable.
