Keeping Up with Rapid Growth Stantec is a global, multidisciplinary engineering, architecture, and construction (AEC) firm that has experienced rapid growth, primarily through acquisitions, over the past two decades. The organization has a geographically dispersed workforce, with approximately 22,000 employees in over 400 offices, located in over 40 countries on six continents. The new acquisitions include teams with new CAD and engineering software applications and electronic document management systems that needed to be standardized within Stantec's data platform strategy. Managing Project Assets Across the Globe One of the main challenges for Stantec is its growing size. With its 400 offices across six continents, as well as its rapid growth, Stantec's data is stored in many different places, including local file servers with various email, collaboration, and cloud storage providers. Stantec chose Bentley's ProjectWise CONNECT Edition as a core component of its overall data platforms strategy. “ProjectWise allows for better organization and collaboration among geographically dispersed project teams, allowing participants to access all information no matter their location," explained Kirk Peterson, senior application technologist, Stantec. “This capability allows Stantec to put their best people on a project, regardless of their location," Peterson said. The system also helps Stantec automate tasks, enforce standards, and reuse intellectual property to streamline workflows. As part of the data integration for all acquisitions, the organization implemented a standard folder and file organization and naming structure based on Stantec's managing electronic documents and directories (MEDAD), a project management framework. This restructuring of existing acquisition data makes sure that all data meets the same level of various regulatory compliance requirements. Streamlining Workflows with Better Collaboration By using ProjectWise, Stantec can provide an integrated global workflow, allowing dispersed teams to work together using different CAD software applications. “ProjectWise enables our teams to work with both Bentley and non-Bentley design files and applications, allowing them to execute projects with whatever design applications our clients want to use," said Peterson. “It also helps our teams to track and repurpose the intellectual property of its designs for future projects." Providing True, Multi-office Collaboration Stantec chose Bentley's ProjectWise because it was the best option in a blended CAD environment, providing true, multi-office collaboration. It allows for easier sharing of best-of designs. Finally, the application will help provide potential benefits of advanced Revit integration, becoming an effective means of forcing discussions of standards. The organization is using ProjectWise to track meeting notes and daily logs, eventually wanting them online and available in ProjectWise. This practice will make it easier to find and share with clients. Moving forward, Stantec will continue to use ProjectWise as its main collaboration platform. Improving Deliverables Review and Organization ProjectWise CONNECT Edition cloud services, such as Deliverables Management and Share, reduced Stantec's need for and expense of other third-party solutions. Stantec is using Deliverables Management for many tasks, including internal deliverables review between subconsultants and the organization, receiving RFIs from subconsultants instead of the harder-to-track emails, and sending submittals to clients. Stantec uses ProjectWise Deliverables Management for larger projects, which have about 100 to 200 documents or more. The application helps manage not just design drawings,

but also the accompanying data, such as images, spreadsheets, and specifications. About 75% of collaboration among geographically dispersed project teams, allowing participants to access all information no matter their location.
