Abbe 5 Refractometer

Abbe 5 Refractometer

Abbe 5 Refractometer

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Abbe 5 Refractometer is a cost-effective instrument designed for academia, research, and general laboratory applications. It is suitable for environments requiring a wide refractive index measurement range, such as small contract laboratories and educational settings.
Features: The refractometer includes both refractive index and Brix scales, with electronic monitoring and display of prism temperature. It allows for accurate readings to four decimal places for refractive index and one decimal place for Brix. The device supports dispersion measurements for solid materials like glass and contact lenses.
Specifications: The Abbe 5 offers a scale range of 0-95 °Brix and 1.30 - 1.70 RI, with a resolution of 0.1/0.0001. It operates within a temperature range of 5–70 °C, with a temperature resolution of 0.1°C. The ambient temperature range is 5-40°C. It is powered by a 1.5V AA alkaline battery, with an approximate life of 12 months under continual use.
Accessories and Order Codes: The refractometer comes with a glass calibration plate, contact liquid, and an instruction manual, all packed in a hard flight case. Optional accessories include a light source for mounting on the instrument base, available with UK/EU or US plugs, and spare bulbs. Additional items include a spare prism box assembly and traceable calibration plates.
Weights and Dimensions: The gross weight is 3.5 kg, and the net weight is 2.55 kg. The packed dimensions are 27 x 37 x 18 cm.
Contact Information: The document provides contact details for offices in the United Kingdom and the United States, including phone numbers, fax numbers, and email addresses.
Historical Context: The Abbe Refractometer is named after Ernst Abbe, a 19th-century physicist and co-founder of the Carl Zeiss Jena Optical Company. He designed the original instrument for measuring dispersion, which led to the development of the modern refractometer.

Abbe 5 Refractometer-1

Abbe 5 Refractometer FOR ACADEMIA, RESEARCH AND GENERAL LABORATORY APPLICATIONS The Abbe 5 is an affordable refractometer ideally suited for use where a wide refractive index measurement range is required such as in small contract laboratories or applications where sample throughput is relatively low. The instrument is also ideal for practical demonstrations and experiments in chemistry and physics laboratories of schools, colleges and universities. The instrument features both refractive index and Brix scales, with the prism temperature being monitored electronically and displayed on the integral digital display. Waterbath connections provide prism temperature control facilitating accurate readings to 4 decimal places RI (1 decimal Brix). Dispersion measurements of solids materials such as glass, contact lenses and fibre optics may be made in accordance with standard practice. The Abbe 5 refractometer is supplied with a glass calibration plate, contact liquid, and instruction manual and is packed in a hard flight case for easy transportation and storage. Limited warranty is 24-months. • Dual Scale • Refractive Index & 0-95 Brix • Dispersion Measurement • Optional Light Source
