Semiconductor Strain Gauges Description Based on piezoresistive effect, BCM SENSOR semiconductor strain gauges (ScSG) are made from p-type silicon wafers, and manufactured in two series: naked-series (SN-series) and backing-series (SB-series). There are 4 different gauge lengths available as options. For SN-series, there is only one type of lead configuration, because the leads from two ends of ScSG is flexible and able to be bent. For SB-series, there 3 different lead configurations available as options. For the details of the lead configuration, please refer to Lead Length and Lead Configuration in this datasheet. The gauges of different gauge factors and electrical resistances are available in stock for quick delivery. The dispersion of resistance for ScSG's packed in one package is listed below in this datasheet. Application Notes 1) SN-series has no backing so its creep effect can be ignored, while SB-series has backing resulting in creep effect in load cell application. 2) The gauge length is different among different series. Gauges with shorter length are suitable for bonding to a smaller surface. Nevertheless, as long as the strain in question is distributed in a bigger area, it is better to use the gauge with longest gauge length to pick up as much as possible the strain of interest. 3) General speaking, as long as the gauge does not break, it can be used to bond to a curved surface. Also the gauge length is better to be shortter the gauge length of 2.6mm is the shortest among all BCM ScSG’s, either the SN-series or SB-series with 2.6mm gauge length should be purchased for application with a curved surface. Ordering Information gauge resistance in ohms gauge length in mm gauge type strain sensitivity lead type S B - 350 - 3 - P - 1 S: silicon B: backed gauge N: naked gauge P: positive This digit is necessary only if the gauge is with backing. 1 - leads extending crystal, along two gauge ends 2 - leads perpendicular to crystal, in one gauge side 3 - leads parallel to crystal BCM SENSOR TECHNOLOGIES BVBA Industriepark Zone 4, Brechtsebaan 2 website: www.bcmsensor.com B-2900 Schoten - Antwerpen, BELGIUM email: sales@bcmsensor.com
