Smart Modem Communication for the Industry and Energy market InduBox GSM VIII Industrial GSM / GPRS Smart Modem Making the grids smarter means that you also want to incorporate into the system the installed base of non IP-enabled metering or logging devices, adding wireless GPRS communication, TCP/IP protocol and functional intelligence by means of an external modem. InduBox GSM VIII, the most recent modem of the InduBox family, intends to be the perfect external GPRS smart modem solution for diverse AMR applications with non IP-enabled metering devices in the field. The new modem includes AirVantageTM mass deployment services, FOTA (firmware upgrade over the air) and 'GSM / GPRS switching' functionality, allowing the modem to change from GSM data to GPRS or vice versa when installed in the field. The modem comes with logically separated RS-232 & RS-485 interfaces. The standard embedded program in the GSM / GPRS CPU of the modem offers different AMR scenarios and even secure communication with the back-office can be set up by adding RSA encryption code to the embedded software of the modem. At the heart of the InduBox VIII modem, the Sierra Wireless GPRS Q2686 module supports a powerful software development environment – Open AT -, which allows embedded ANSI C applications to be executed directly on the Wireless CPU. This means Bausch Datacom can optionally integrate tailor-made applications and/or communication protocols, based on customer demand, a very powerful tool! Protocols such as IEC 60870-5-104, DLMS COSEM, Modbus or others can thus be implemented in the Wireless CPU of the modem. The InduBox GSM VIII is especially conceived for 'heavy' industrial environments: the modem is tested and approved according to the TST 25-3 extended immunity requirements in the Belgium electricity market. For example, when testing EN61000-4-3 - electromagnetic compatibility - Laborelec, the official Belgian test lab creates a test environment which generates 30 V/m field strengths instead of the standard 'normal' field strength of 10 V/m (CISPR24 level = 10 V/m).
