Overview: Axsys Technologies' two-axis gimbal is engineered for UAV sensor systems and other military, scientific, and commercial uses. It features compact direct drive brushless DC motors, high-precision rotary encoders, precision ball bearings, and optional solid-state gyroscopic sensors.
Design and Components: The gimbal includes an optically-coated aluminum mirror or alternative optical payload supported by a one-piece yoke for the elevation axis. The azimuth motor and encoder are housed in a black anodized aluminum base. Duplex-configured precision ball bearings enhance radial and axial stiffness, ensuring smooth and reliable operation. Specialized lubricants are available for high altitude or vacuum conditions.
Control System: An optional digital control system supports various electronic interfaces and operational modes, such as vector scanning and line-of-sight stabilization. It operates on a 28V DC power supply and includes a 16-bit 150 MHz DSP and 16-bit dual DACs. Serial flash enables in-field code updates.
