What's New in Action Alembic Format Support You can now import and work with Alembic geometries in Action. The Alembic (.abc) file format is an open-source format developed for exchanging complex 3D geometry data. Alembic files are highly portable and application independent so they can be shared, processed, and played back by a number of applications. Complex scenes and animations can be exported as an Alembic file from Maya, for example. This workflow lets you easily pass complex scene data to various areas of your production pipeline, such as between animation and simulation or animation...

See Position Mapping (page 2145). Improvement to Lens Flares When adding a Lens Flare in Action, you can now include multiple Border FX objects to attach to the various texture components. The Border FX object settings were formerly located in the Lens Flare menu, but you were limited to global Border FX settings per Lens Flare. With this new workflow, you can attach lens flare components to different Border FX objects, with each Border FX object having different settings. New Atomize Object A new node is introduced in Action, Atomize. When you attach an Atomize node to a surface or...

See Substance Materialize (page 2105). 3ds Max GroupId Support A new Use GroupId option is available in the Action Geometry menu's UV Map settings. When importing FBX models created in 3ds Max that have GroupId info, this option allows you to ignore or respect this property. By default, it is enabled, so that in Action, the model looks as similar as possible to how it looks in 3ds Max. Improved Interactivity in Action Improvements have been made to increase interactivity when working in Action. In particular: ■ Interactivity is improved when viewing the schematic and Result view in a 2-up...

The best way to know how the timeline will look in Flame is to export the timeline to XML, and then import it back in Final Cut Pro X. The following general limitations apply to Final Cut Pro X XML imports: ■ Compounded (nested) clips are imported as layers in the timeline. ■ All transitions and effects are reset to default values. For a list of Final Cut Pro X effects and transitions supported in Flame, see Final Cut Pro X: Supported Transitions and Effects (page 652). Import: Support for CMX EDL Long Tape Names Flame now supports the import of CMX EDL with tape names longer than 8...

Apply Look LUT button Enable to use the LUT stored with the Look information read by Flame from the location determined by the Look Selection box. Colour Rendering box When working with Look information, set the Colour Rendering to Rec709 or DCI P3 option. If the Colour Rendering is set to LogC, Smoke/Flame displays a checkerboard instead of the clip as ARRI Look Creator supports images only encoded with REC709. Support for RED Magic Motion for HDRx Flame now supports the RED-provided Magic Motion algorithm. Magic Motion is a blending algorithm used to composite tracks A and X of an HDRx...

NOTE It is still possible to capture and output 1080 50P/59P/60P material using the traditionnal 4:2:2 Dual SDI connections; select the non-3G timings when entering the output clip module. 2K 4:4:4 timings over 3G: ■ TIP Proper playback of 1080/50P/59P/60P clips requires Flame to use a matching sync to keep the audio synchronized and ensure no frames are dropped. Since there is no 1080/50P/59P/60P sync generator, you need to use a 720/50P/59P/60P sync to genlock the Player; to see the full 1920x1080 frame in your Broadcast Monitor, enable Scale to Fit Monitor in the Broadcast Preferences....
