Product catalog summary
Atmel: Expertise in RFID Technology
Atmel has been a leader in the RFID industry since the late 1980s, initially offering read-only RFID ICs and later developing flexible read/write ICs. The company focuses on low-frequency RFID ICs for access control and animal ID tags, providing a wide range of semiconductor solutions and extensive application support.

RFID Technology
Passive RFID: Comprises a tag and a reader, where the reader generates an RF field to power the tag and enable data transmission.
Active RFID: Utilizes battery-powered tags and a reader with LF trigger and UHF RX channels for communication.

Applications of RFID
Atmel's RFID solutions are used in various applications:
Security and Access Control: Implemented in ID cards for building access and automotive security.
Component Authentication: Ensures the authenticity of components in electronics and pharmaceuticals.
Animal Identification: Tracks livestock, wildlife, and pets, adhering to standards like ISO 11784/85.
Manufacturing and Logistics: Offers reliable solutions for asset management in harsh environments.

RFID Product Portfolio
Atmel provides a range of RFID products:
Passive RFID: Features include up to 288 bits of user memory, compliance with ISO standards, and security features.
Active RFID: Includes LF trigger and UHF receive channels, low current consumption, and an 8-bit AVR microcontroller core.

Atmel Innovative Silicon RFID IDIC Solutions Active RFID The following two components form an active RFID system: • Battery-driven tag, transponder or label • Reader or trigger and receive station An active RFID system is very similar to passive RFID. The main difference is that the tag or transponder is battery driven. Also, the reader consists of two main parts: 1. LF trigger and TX channel: sends the trigger or wake-up signal (not the power for the tag), transmits data to the tag. 2. UHF RX channel: receives the return message sent by the tag in the UHF frequency band. Active RFID System Active...

Manufacturing and Logistics RFID systems guarantee reliability even in dirty and harsh environments. LF RFID is well suited for applications in difficult conditions where HF, UHF or Microwave RFID systems are not able to operate, such as under water or surrounded by metal. Efficient and time-saving systems can be achieved by fast and secure identification solutions that do not need direct contact or line-of-sight. In this area, accurate manufacturing and logistic systems enable cost and time savings. The environmental and velocity factors especially play an important role. Active RFID technology...
