Manual steering wheel

Product catalog summary
Product Description
The ATESTEO measuring steering wheel is designed for vehicle installation to measure steering torque and optionally the rotation angle. It can be mounted with or without an adapter kit, either on top of the existing steering wheel or directly on the steering system. The product includes a VETAS evaluation unit and requires familiarity with VETAS hardware and VECTO software manuals.
Safety Instructions
Key safety measures include deactivating and removing the airbag before installation, ensuring all mounting screws are tightened, and using the device only on test tracks. The steering wheel must not be used on public roads, and the driver must be familiar with its operation. The power supply should be secured with vehicle fuses to prevent overload.
Equipment Installation
Measurement Body: The torque sensor includes electronics for measuring torque and angle, consisting of a rotor and stator connected by bearings.
Adapter Kit Components: Optional components include a cover, connector disk, spline, clamping material set, and mounting screws.
Mechanical Installation: Detailed steps are provided for installation with and without the adapter kit, emphasizing the importance of securely fixing all components to prevent loss of steering control.
Rotation Angle Measurement: Requires a fixed connection to the vehicle body, typically using a threaded bar and vacuum suction cup.
Electrical Installation: Involves connecting the torque sensor to the VETAS3 evaluation unit, ensuring wires do not interfere with the driver.
Operation
Operation is conducted using VETAS hardware and VECTO software. Users must ensure safety instructions are followed and that the measurement range is not exceeded to avoid damaging the sensor.
Maintenance
Includes guidelines for storage and calibration to ensure accurate measurements and longevity of the equipment.
  • Storage: When storing the measuring wheel, ensure all screws are inserted softly into the torque sensor to prevent dirt or dust from entering through the holes.
  • Calibration: Regular calibration is recommended according to customer requirements. ATESTEO suggests calibration every two years, and they offer this service.
Appendix
Contains tables of figures and tables referenced throughout the manual.
  • Table of Figures: Includes various figures illustrating components such as the torque sensor, connector disk, spline, clamping material set, and complete system with adapter kit.
  • Table of Tables: Contains a table listing clamping components.

Product description Product description The product “measuring steering wheel” is used for installation inside of a vehicle. With an optional adapter kit it is mounted on top of the existing vehicle steering wheel. Without that adapter kit it can be mounted on the steering system after removing the original vehicle steering wheel. The “measuring steering wheel” measures the applied steering torque and optionally the rotation angle. The product must be handled as measurement sensor. Misuse and wrong handling can damage the sensor or lead to wrong measurement results. The measuring steering wheel...

Equipment installation A ATESTEO Use two screws of type M6x16 to fix one spline. The clamping mechanism is used to fix the previously mentioned holder with the original steering wheel. First take the three parts shown in Figure 10. o © o Figure 10 Clamping components Table 1 Clamping components This set must be installed three times with 120° angle between each set. It’s a good way to do the assembly with two persons. One person is holding the parts, the other one is fixing the screws. Measuring steering wheel - V 2.1 - 05/2022

Equipment installation Risk of fatal injuries! If screws are not tightened well, steering control can be lost during driving! Risk of death. Check screws before every drive. Rotation angle measurement Whenever precise measurements of the rotation angle are required, the torque sensor must be connected with a fix part of the vehicle body (e.g. front window). Since the installation position of the sensor varies in each vehicle, the connection must be custom-tailored depending on the test vehicle. The torque sensor has a M6 winding where a connection system has to be applied. Typically a threaded...
