Application note Ascon Spa Climatic Rooms Air Conditioning The application High accuracy air conditioning is required for the production of precisely machined mechanical parts. The tool machines are mounted into a large pressurized room where temperature needs to be constant. Also temperature gradients and humidity control is required. The room is divided into eight zones each requiring a different temperature setpoint. The humidity is the same for all the zones. The plant includes a common air pre treatment section for cooling, drying, heating and humidification. Each zone has an independent air inlet equipped with one heater. The Ascon solution Eight class A (high accuracy) RTDs of the ZTR series are used to detect the temperature at the inlet of each zone of the climatic room. Humidity is measured by means of “Humi-Chip” transmitters of the H series. Temperature sensors and humidity transmitters are directly connected to a series of analogue input modules while the commands, interlocks and status signals of the machines, such as coolers, air handling units and heaters, are wired to digital I/O modules. The control unit (CPU) takes care of PID control, auto tuning, sequences, logics and alarm generation. The process is controlled by acting on cooling fluid valves, air dampers and room pressurization fan inverter. The system is connected to a SCADA and one operator panel of Autolink and OP series respectively. State-of-the-art solutions using Ascon equipment have been realized for similar applications such as White Chambers and Environmental Rooms. Typically, the PAC (Programmable Automation Controller) of the sigmadue series has demonstrated to be a suitable device to control this type of machines.
