As the piston (1) moves up, the negative pressure is formed and it closes the discharge valve (2), the pump inlet valve (3) opens and the fluid is drawn-in through the radial opening under the pump piston. Once the top dead centre is achieved, the piston moves down and increasing fluid pressure closes the inlet valve and opens the discharge valve.
