Introduction
The DMX-A2-DRV is an integrated step motor and driver designed for flexibility and performance. It operates with a voltage input of 12-48VDC, supports peak current settings from 100mA to 3.0A, and offers configurable microstep settings. It is compatible with both one-clock and two-clock inputs and includes opto-isolated inputs and outputs. Available in NEMA 17 and 23 motor sizes, it also offers optional encoders.
Part Numbering
The product is available with NEMA 17 or 23 motors, with options for double or triple stack sizes and an optional 1000 count encoder.
Electrical and Thermal Specifications
The DMX-A2-DRV requires a regulated voltage of +12 to +48 VDC and a recommended supply current of 3.0 A. It operates within temperatures of -20°C to +85°C and can be stored between -55°C and +150°C.
Dimensions
Dimensions vary by model, with NEMA 17 models ranging from 1.58 to 1.89 inches and NEMA 23 models from 2.2 to 3.1 inches.
Motor Specifications
The motors are 1.8-degree bi-polar step motors with specifications varying by size and stack, including max amp per phase, holding torque, resistance, inductance, and inertia.
Torque Curves
Torque curves are provided to demonstrate performance under various conditions.
Connections
The device uses a standard DB9 connector interface with detailed pin descriptions for power, pulse inputs, enable inputs, alarm outputs, and optional encoder connections.
General Specifications
Microstep settings range from 2 to 500, with configurable current settings. Over-temperature alarms activate at 70°C and deactivate below 68°C, with automatic driver shutdown at 75°C.
Driver Configuration
Parameters such as microstep settings, run and idle currents, idle time, direction polarity, and clock mode are configurable. The Dynamic Configuration Method allows adjustments without additional hardware.
Appendix A: Heat Dissipation
Heat dissipation is managed through a heat-conductive compound and integrated fins. Proper mounting and orientation are recommended to enhance heat dissipation.
Appendix B: Other Configuration Methods
Configuration can be performed using ACE-SXC or DMX-CFG-USB-V2 modules, with or without a Windows PC.
Configuration Methods
Two methods are available: using a Windows PC or a configuration button for PC-free setup. Visual guidance is provided in Figure B.0.
Wiring
Wiring diagrams for connecting ACE-SXC / DMX-CFG-USB-V2 to the DMX-A2-DRV are shown in Figure B.1. Cable accessories are available for purchase.
Software Requirements
Ensure the correct USB driver is installed before connecting to ACE-SXC or DMX-CFG-USB-V2. Configuration details are available in their respective manuals.
Encoder Pin-Out
Older versions have an open frame for an optional encoder. Pin assignments are detailed in Table C.1, with a 0.1” spacing 5-pin connector. The standard encoder resolution is 1000 count/rev.
