Simmonds Product Brochure-1

Simmonds - Solution Needed, Solution Provided Other Products from Simmonds We have decades of experience of working with a number of major automotive manufacturers to produce fastening solutions, cold forged and screw machined parts to their specific requirements. Below you will see two examples of customised solutions we have supplied into automotive industry. We also have a standard range of high performance, self locking nuts. CN/CF 70 Self locking, high quality, one-piece bearing nut All the benefits of the standard Nylstop nut, with the additional benefit over a typical bearing nut of one-piece installation speed. No need for costly and time-consuming extra parts, reducing installation time. MHT A conical shaped nut – where the diameter of the upper part of the nut is slightly reduced. Six vertical slots will open gradually whilst the nut is screwed onto the bolt. The elasticity provided by the particular shape of the nut will ensure the required locking torque. PH Small, thinwall, lightweight, self locking and extremely strong. An Aerospace quality nut which is useful when space and weight are at a premium. DHE Series 12 point nut – allowing very high torque control. Ideal for difficult to reach applications. For further information on the range visit www.afssimmonds.net. The Simmonds® Product Range Automotive Case Studies Contact Case Study 1 A world renowned car manufacturer was looking for a new brace supplier after the previous supplier withdrew from production as it could no longer meet the required price target using its hot forge process. We saw the opportunity to meet the clients’ product and cost requirement by utilising our cold forging capability and engineering expertise. After a few weeks of constant process analysis and development, we found the right method to produce the desired product and meet the specified price objectives. We did this by using sophisticated forging software to optimise the design of the product and also to increase the lifetime of the forging tool. Our expertise also succeeded in reducing the products’ weight by 20% through the mechanical cold forging process without affecting the performance of the product. The client was so pleased with our solution that they are expanding the use of Simmonds cold forged braces across their product portfolio. Case Study 2 A well known car manufacturer was looking for a nut solution to reduce the risk of fastener loosening on the wheel axle application in the event of general degradation; the original request was for a nut with integrated special washer. Not only did we develop a specific nut with special washer in order to fulfil the clients initial requirements, but, also managed to reduce the cost per part against the original cost target offering a resistant thin fragmented washer solution. Additionally, we delivered useable prototypes for the client to put through a full and intensive vehicle test, proving the nut was meeting all the clients’ stringent requirements. Taking it further, we have now been able to offer a new innovative nut solution to the client, without cost impact. www.afssimmonds.net | [email protected] Alcoa Fastening Systems St Cosme Operations, 9 rue de Cressonnieres 72110 Saint Cosme en Varais France Alcoa Fastening Systems Kelkheim Operations, Industriestr. 6 65779 Kelkheim Germany Email: [email protected] Web: www.afssimmonds.net Email: [email protected] Web: www.afscamloc.net Alcoa Fastening Systems Telford Operations, Unit C, Stafford Park 7 Telford TF3 3BQ England Alcoa Fastening Systems Montbrison Operations, BP 84, 42602 Montbrison Cedex, France Email: [email protected] Web: www.afshuck.net The braces are welded onto the engine brackets to hold the engine in place.
