BOD Measurement System BD 600 Overview
The BD 600 is a system designed for measuring Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) in wastewater samples. BOD is a critical parameter for assessing the impact of organic matter on sewage plants and water bodies. The BD 600 uses a respirometric method to measure BOD, which involves monitoring the pressure changes due to oxygen consumption by microorganisms.

Key Features
  • User-friendly interface with a large, illuminated display.
  • Graphical representation of measured values.
  • Data transfer via USB and SD card.
  • Mercury-free and environmentally friendly.
  • Remote control capability.
  • Customizable measurement periods from 1 to 28 days.
  • Inductive stirring system for sample agitation.

Measurement Ranges and Sample Volumes
The BD 600 is calibrated for various sample volumes, with a total measuring range of 0 – 4000 mg/l. The system provides direct BOD readings in mg/l.

Principle of Operation
The BD 600 operates on the manometric principle, where oxygen uptake is related to pressure changes in a closed vessel. Carbon dioxide produced by microorganisms is absorbed by potassium hydroxide, resulting in a measurable pressure drop.

Applications
  • Wastewater treatment plants.
  • Analytical laboratories.
  • Scientific research.

System Components
The BD 600 includes sensor heads, sample bottles, an inductive stirring system, overflow flasks, and chemical solutions for accurate BOD measurement.

Technical Specifications
  • Measurement principle: Manometric, mercury-free.

  • Display: 128 x 240 pixel, backlit.
  • Measurement period: 1 to 28 days.
  • Automatic start function after temperature equalization.
  • Power supply: Batteries or power unit.
  • Interface: USB and SD card.
  • Protection class: IP 54.

BOD Measurement System BD 600 Accurate, automatic & direct control of your wastewater samples Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) Respirometric BOD measurement using BD 600 BOD – biochemical oxygen demand – is an expression for the quantity of oxygen required for biological degradation of organic matter in a waste water sample. BOD measurement is therefore used as a basis for the detection of biologically degradable organic matter in water. The difference between BOD and chemical oxygen demand (COD) is that COD additionally registers biologically non-degradable organic matter. The AQUALYTIC® sensor system BD 600 is a 6 sample system that allows precise measurements of BOD based on the manometric principle. Manometric respirometers relate oxygen uptake to the change in pressure caused by oxygen consumption while maintaining a constant volume. Due to the modern integral pressure sensors, it is not necessary to use mercury for the measurements. BOD measurement is an important measurement of the effects of domestic and industrial waste water on sewage plants and outflow points. ■ Large, illuminated & brilliant graphic display ■ Remote control ■ User-selectable time span from 1 to 28 days ■ Graphical representation of measured values ■ Free individual programming of each of the six samples ■ USB & SD Card data transfer ■ Inductive stirring system, 100 - 240 V / 50 - 60 Hz Regularly updated information: www.aqualytic.de

Measuring ranges and sample volumes The BOD level of a sample depends on the quantity of organic matter present, which can vary considerably. The BOD measuring system BD 600 is therefore calibrated for the various sample volumes and the corresponding measuring ranges listed in the table below. The overall measuring range of the system is 0 – 4000 mg/l. For all measuring ranges, BOD is shown directly in mg/l. Range mg/l BOD Pressure sensor BD 600 Principle Respirometric methods provide direct measurements of the oxygen consumed by microorganisms from an air or oxygenenriched environment in a closed...

BOD-Measurement Evaluation of measurements The BD 600 measuring system records a measurement once every hour, independent of the length of the measuring period. This way the quality of the series of measurement can be evaluated in an early stage. Current values and stored values may be called up at any time. Stored value can be displayed numerically or graphically. The table/graph below illustrates an example of BOD5 evaluation. The development of BOD over a period of five days is easily seen. Day Display 1. day Automatic start function Variations in sample temperature prior to testing result...
