Overview
The Aqua MegaDisk™ Cloth Media Filter is a water filtration system that utilizes OptiFiber® cloth filtration media. It features large disks, each approximately 10 feet in diameter, making it the largest cloth disk available. The system can accommodate up to 24 disks in a single filter, capable of treating up to 24 million gallons per day (MGD). This design reduces the number of filters required, leading to lower capital and operating costs.
Features and Advantages- Low energy consumption with no moving parts except during backwash mode.
- Reduced maintenance costs due to fewer pumps and valves.
- PLC-based control system for automatic operation.
- Suitable for deep bed filter retrofits, new plants, and expansions.
Typical Applications- Tertiary treatment
- Reuse/recycle
- Phosphorus removal
- Stormwater management
Filtration Mode
In this mode, inlet wastewater enters the filter by gravity through the Influent Channel. The stationary cloth media disks are fully submerged, allowing wastewater to flow through them while retaining solids within the cloth's depth. The filtrate is conveyed by gravity to the Effluent Channel, and heavier solids settle at the tank bottom.
Backwash Mode
During backwash, the cloth media disks are automatically cleaned. The disks rotate slowly, allowing continuous filtration. Backwash shoes contact the cloth media directly, and solids are removed by vacuum pressure from the Backwash/Solids Pump. The backwash water is directed to the headworks.
Solids Wasting Mode
The Backwash/Solids Pump provides suction to the Solids Collection Manifold for the removal of settled solids.
Conclusion
The Aqua MegaDisk™ filter builds on the reliability and performance of the original AquaDisk® filter, offering larger disks and fewer mechanical components. It provides a compact solution, operating in 80% less space than comparable sand filters.
