Product catalog summary
Advanced Features
The AnaSense® Anaerobic Control Analyzer offers on-line, automatic measurements of volatile fatty acids (VFA), bicarbonate, alkalinity, pH, and ammonia in a single run. It features a second-generation design with fewer moving parts, simple maintenance, and no need for special analytical skills. The system provides rapid results within 10-15 minutes, allowing for effective process monitoring and optimization. It supports dual range analysis for influent/effluent and can multiplex up to eight sampling points. The analyzer includes an industrial PC with AppliTek controller software and extended data communication features.
Application Fields
The analyzer is used for on-line monitoring of critical process parameters in anaerobic digestion, applicable to industrial AD digesters, anaerobic wastewater treatment, anaerobic sludge treatment, and pilot-scale AD reactors.
High Analytical Performance
The AnaSense® performs direct, automatic titration, ensuring no volatilization. It shows close correlation with reference laboratory methods for VFAs and reduces reagent consumption through batch-wise operation and high precision titration techniques. The system is factory configured, tested, and calibrated.
Introduction
Anaerobic digesters require critical parameter monitoring for optimal results. Traditional analysis methods are often expensive or time-consuming, leading to limited monitoring. The AnaSense® provides a robust solution for continuous monitoring, enabling higher loading rates and preventing digester failure due to VFA accumulation.
Critical Parameters and Process Stability
The stability of the anaerobic digestion process is linked to the balance between bacterial groups and efficiency. VFAs are key to process stability and performance. The AnaSense® helps maintain process stability by monitoring VFAs, alkalinity, and other critical parameters.
Analysis and Liquid Handling
The analyzer uses a proprietary acid/base titration method to calculate concentrations of VFAs, total and partial alkalinity, bicarbonate, and pH. Optional ammonia monitoring is available. The system is controlled by an industrial PC, which manages reagent and sample addition.
Data Exchange and Supervision
The AnaSense® allows remote operation and data management through LAN Ethernet software. It supports multiplexed analysis, enabling monitoring of up to eight streams sequentially, reducing costs per sampling point.
Utilities and Technical Specifications
The analyzer requires 220-240 VAC power, instrument air, tap water, and a drain. It features an industrial PC with a touchscreen interface, data logging, and communication ports supporting Ethernet connectivity. The system is CE approved and factory tested.
Mechanical Data
The analyzer cabinet is IP55 rated, with an IP65 rated touchscreen. It is constructed from thermoform ABS and galvanized steel, with dimensions of 69 cm x 46.5 cm x 33 cm and a total weight of 25 kg.
Analytical Unit
The AnaSense® uses acid/base titration to measure VFAs, bicarbonate, alkalinity, and pH, with optional ammonia measurement. It offers various standard measuring ranges and is factory calibrated.
Options and Add-ons
Available options include sample preconditioning systems, manual/automatic validation, reagent level detection, and outdoor cabinet configurations.

2 | Anaerobic Control Analyzer CriƟcal parameters and process stability Anaerobic digesters are often perceived as self-regulating but require critical parameter monitoring in order to obtain optimal results. However, due to the expensive or time-consuming character of most analysis methods for anaerobic digestion, industrial digesters are usually not extensively monitored, except for a few parameters such as pH and gas ow. This is the reason why in reality commercial exploitation of full-scale digesters is often constrained. Operators prefer to keep the loading rate of the digester relatively...

3 | Anaerobic Control Analyzer Analysis and liquid handling Data exchange and supervision The AnaSense® runs a chemical analysis based on a proprietary acid/base titration. From the obtained titration volumes, respectively the concentrations are calculated and displayed on the controller screen: All actions and logs of the AnaSense® are controlled by the industrial PC. The incorporated software exibility minimizes physical operator intervention. The analyzer screen (the client) can remotely be taken over by means of LAN Ethernet software (such as VNC software). Authorized users can carry out...
