SIGMASHELL

SIGMASHELL

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Schmidt SIGMASHELL all-welded plate and shell heat exchangers are designed to combine the durability and high-pressure capabilities of shell and tube exchangers with the compactness and efficiency of plate heat exchangers. They are suitable for various industries, including chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and energy sectors.
Features and Benefits:
  • The cylindrical shell design is optimal for high-pressure applications.
  • High thermal efficiency and surface density result in a compact and lightweight design, minimizing volumetric hold-up.
  • Customizable solutions with various flow arrangements, plate circuits, pass arrangements, and three plate corrugation patterns (H - high, L - low, G - gas).
  • All-welded shells provide a gasket-free design, with options for inspection and cleaning access.
  • Larger shell-side connections are available for condensing applications.
Technical Specifications:
  • Operating Pressure: Full vacuum to 150 barg (2,175 psi).
  • Operating Temperature: -200°C to 550°C (-328°F to 1,022°F).
  • Heat Transfer Surface: Available in 316 stainless steel, titanium, and hastelloy plates, with surface areas up to 700m² (7,535ft²).
  • Shell Diameter Range: 360mm to 1,400mm (14 inches to 55 inches).
  • Connection Sizes: Shell connections range from DN25 to DN600 (1 inch to 24 inches), and plate connections from DN50 to DN300 (2 inches to 12 inches).
  • Compliance with Codes: ASME, PED, CRN.
Design and Manufacturing: The SIGMASHELL features a laser-welded design that provides a greater cross-sectional weld area with minimal heat input, reducing material microstructure changes. This process minimizes the risk of sinkholes and pores, enhancing the integrity and lifespan of the plate packs.

API Heat Transfer's Schmidt SIGMASHELL all-welded plate and shell heat exchangers offer a unique combination of the ruggedness and high pressure capability of a shell and tube with the compactness and high thermal efficiency of a plate heat exchanger. O Features and benefits: ■ Cylindrical shell is most advantageous design for handling high pressure applications ■ High thermal efficiency and surface density result in a compact, lighter weight design which minimizes volumetric hold-up ■ Solutions to specific performance requirements can be optimized with various flow arrangements, plate circuits, pass arrangements and three plate corrugation patterns (H - high, L - low, G - gas) ■ Shells can be all-welded providing a gasket-free design, or with accessible for inspection and cleaning ■ Larger shell-side connections are available for condensing applications The Schmidt SIGMASHELL is ideal for transferring heat in liquids, vapors and gases found in many industry sectors including chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, alternate energy, power, steel mills and coking plants. Its tremendous design flexibility allows API Heat Transfer engineers to customize a solution specific to your application. Our Schmidt SIGMASHELL is a laser-welded design providing greater cross sectional weld area at minimum heat input resulting in minimal changes to material microstructure. Its smaller weld pool volume reduces the risk of sink holes and pores during solidification which can be starting points for corrosion. Also, our laser-welding process is not as susceptible to failures along the circumferential weld seams. These advantages result in plate packs with a higher degree of integrity and a longer life cycle.
