Description

The PA50 is a MOSFET power operational amplifier that enhances power amplifier performance in terms of slew rate and power bandwidth, while maintaining high current and power dissipation capabilities. It features boost voltage inputs that allow the small signal portion to operate at higher voltages, improving efficiency.

General Considerations

For stability, heat sinking, and other operational considerations, refer to Application Note 1. The PA50 does not have an internal current limit, but external circuits can be implemented for this purpose. The boost operation allows for higher efficiency by operating small signal stages at higher voltages.

Compensation and Power Supply Bypassing

Compensation is fixed for a gain of 3 or more, and proper power supply bypassing is crucial for operation. Use ceramic and electrolytic capacitors for bypassing.

Boost voltage inputs allow the small signal portion of the amplifier to operate at a higher voltage than the high current output stage. The amplifier is then biased to achieve close linear swings to the supply rails at high currents for extra efficient operation. The JEDEC MO-127 12-pin Power Dip™ package (see Package Outlines) is hermetically sealed and isolated from the internal circuits.
