Overview
Ansaldo Energia's hydrogen-cooled turbogenerators, with optional direct cooling of the stator winding, adhere to PED and ATEX regulations for safe operation in hydrogen environments. These generators are designed for efficiency and reliability, incorporating advanced materials and cooling systems.

Design Features and Manufacture
Stator: The stator frame is a robust welded steel structure designed to withstand internal hydrogen pressure. It features a core made from low-loss silicon alloy magnetic steel, with laminations coated in heat-resistant varnish. The design includes laminated pressplates and radially flexible members to minimize losses and vibrations. Cooling is achieved through hydrogen gas or axially in water-cooled models. The stator winding uses a double-layer Roebel bar design, insulated with Resin Rich tape, and supported by heavy rings to manage forces during operation.

Rotor: The rotor is a single heat-treated forging with high strength and magnetic permeability. It includes integral coupling flanges and uses high-strength non-magnetic steel rings to manage centrifugal forces. The rotor winding is made from silver alloy copper for enhanced strength and fatigue resistance. Cooling is provided by gas flow through the rotor, facilitated by axial fans.

Auxiliary Systems
These systems manage the cooling and sealing processes, including gas plants for hydrogen management and water plants for cooling water conditioning. Seal oil plants ensure proper oil supply to shaft seals.

Excitation System
A fast-response static excitation system is used to maintain stable power supply and constant generator voltage, adapting quickly to load changes.

Testing
Comprehensive testing includes hydraulic pressure tests, gas-tightness checks, and running tests such as open circuit and short circuit tests.
