GRAVITY ZONE In the gravity zone, the slurry is dewatered solely by a gravity-driven process in which interstitial water is drained off through the larger cavities. The stability of the filter cake is thus increased to such an extent that light pressure can be exerted in the subsequent zone without squeezing the slurry out at the sides of the belts.
