Functional Description: The ADP2311 integrates high-side and low-side MOSFETs for efficiency. It features internal compensation and soft start to simplify design. The device includes a watchdog timer to reset the microprocessor if necessary, and voltage monitoring for controlled power sequences.
Protection Features: The ADP2311 includes undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and thermal shutdown (TSD) to ensure safe operation.
Performance Characteristics: Efficiency varies with output current and voltage, with graphs provided for different conditions. The device maintains high efficiency across a range of output currents and temperatures.
Pin Configuration: The device is available in a 24-lead LFCSP package, with detailed pin functions provided for integration into systems.
Control Scheme: The device uses a fixed frequency, current mode PWM control architecture. The high-side MOSFET turns on at the start of each oscillator cycle, increasing inductor current until a threshold is reached, then switches to the low-side MOSFET to decrease current.
Precision Enable/Shutdown: The ADP2311 features a precision enable pin with an internal pull-down current source. Channels are enabled when the EN pin voltage exceeds 1.2 V and disabled when it falls below 1.1 V.
Internal Regulator: An internal regulator provides a stable voltage for control circuits and gate drivers, requiring a 1 µF ceramic capacitor for stability.
Bootstrap Circuitry: Integrated boot regulators provide gate drive voltage for high-side MOSFETs, requiring a 0.1 µF ceramic capacitor.
Soft Start: The soft start feature limits output voltage rise time and reduces inrush current, fixed at 512 clock cycles (1.7 ms).
Protection Features: The ADP2311 includes peak current-limit and short-circuit protection, with a high-side MOSFET peak current limit of 2 A. It enters hiccup mode if overcurrent persists.
Power-On Reset (POR): The POR function monitors the FBx pin voltage, with thresholds specified as a percentage of VFB. It includes hysteresis between falling and rising thresholds.
Timer Pin Configuration: The TIMER pin configuration affects POR sequence timing, with options for capacitor, resistor-capacitor, or floating configurations.
Power Fail Comparator: A power fail comparator warns when input voltage falls below a set level, allowing system preparation for power loss.
Voltage Monitor Comparator (VM2): The VM2 pin controls Channel 2 based on voltage thresholds, ensuring proper power-up conditions.
Watchdog Timer: The watchdog timer monitors processor activity, requiring periodic toggling of the WDI pin to avoid reset.
Power-Up and Power-Down Sequence: Channel 1 powers up before Channel 2 and powers down after Channel 2, with specific conditions and delays for each sequence.
Overvoltage Protection (OVP): The OVP feature protects against output shorts to higher voltage supplies, turning off MOSFETs when feedback voltage exceeds 0.7 V.
Undervoltage Lockout (UVLO): The UVLO threshold is set at 4.2 V with a hysteresis of 0.5 V to prevent power-on glitches. Channels are enabled when PVIN1 or PVIN2 voltage exceeds 4.2 V and disabled when it falls below 3.7 V.
Thermal Shutdown: If the junction temperature exceeds 150°C, the PFO pin is pulled low, and Channel 2 enters power feedback mode. Recovery occurs when the temperature drops below 135°C, initiating a soft start.
Applications Information:
  • Input Capacitor Selection: Use a ceramic capacitor (10 μF to 47 μF) close to the PVINx pin. Ensure the voltage rating exceeds the maximum input voltage.
  • Output Voltage Setting: Set using an external resistor divider. Ensure RBOT is less than 30 kΩ to maintain accuracy.
  • Inductor Selection: Choose based on operating frequency, input/output voltage, and ripple current. The inductor value affects transient response and efficiency.
  • Output Capacitor Selection: Use small ceramic capacitors with low ESR and ESL. X5R or X7R dielectrics are recommended.
Recommended Components: Tables provide recommended resistor divider values, inductors, and output capacitors for various output voltages and applications.
Application Circuit: Includes a typical application circuit diagram with specified component values for input power fail voltage and channel operations.
Outline Dimensions: Details the dimensions of the 24-Lead Lead Frame Chip Scale Package (LFCSP_WQ).
Ordering Guide: Lists models with temperature ranges, watchdog timeout periods, and package descriptions.

Efficiency vs. Output Current at VIN = 12 V, fSW = 300 kHz GENERAL DESCRIPTION The ADP2311 is a fully integrated, dual output, synchronous step-down dc-to-dc regulator. The regulator operates from input voltages of 4.5 V to 18 V, and the output can regulate down to 0.6 V. Each channel can provide up to 1 A of continuous output current. An on-chip watchdog timer can reset the microprocessor if it fails to strobe within a preset timeout period. Accurate voltage monitoring circuitry and a power fail comparator provide a controlled power-up and power-down sequence to enhance system reliability. The ADP2311 integrates the high-side and low-side MOSFETs to provide a very high efficiency, compact solution. Both channels of the regulator run at 180° out of phase to reduce the input ripple current and the input capacitor size, thereby helping to lower system electromagnetic interference (EMI). The ADP2311 also integrates internal compensation and soft start circuitry to simplify the design. The ADP2311 also includes undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and thermal shutdown (TSD). The ADP2311 operates over the −40°C to +125°C junction temperature range and is available in a 24-lead LFCSP package.
