Product catalog summary
Overview: Hunter Spring specializes in manufacturing flat coiled springs for diverse markets such as commercial, industrial, medical, and military sectors. The document provides comprehensive details on both stock and custom-designed spring-powered devices, focusing on linear and rotational travel applications for design engineers.
Specifications: The document details various spring types and their applications:
  • NEG’ATOR® Extension Springs: Ideal for applications needing output force with linear travel, offering a low force gradient and allowing long linear extensions.
  • NEG’ATOR Motor Assemblies: Consist of a single spring on a storage drum, used for counterbalancing, retrieving, and returning functions.
  • Power Springs: Suitable for applications requiring output torque with rotational travel, providing high torque in a few turns.
  • SPIR’ATOR® Springs: Offer a lower force gradient and more turns within the same package size compared to power springs.
Procedures: Detailed specifications for various spring models are included, covering load capacities, dimensions, and fatigue life. Guidelines for selecting the appropriate spring type based on application needs are also provided.
Standards and Recommendations: Hunter Spring offers custom designs to meet specific application needs, with engineers available to assist in selecting the right spring design based on space, life cycle, load, and operation requirements.
Key Data from Tables: Tables in the document list part numbers, specifications, load capacities, dimensions, and fatigue life for various spring models. For instance, the NEG’ATOR Constant Force Extension Springs table includes details like load in pounds, drum diameter, and band length.
Critical Information: The document highlights the versatility and compact size of NEG’ATOR springs, their ability to generate maximum force at initial deflection, and the variety of materials used. It also emphasizes the importance of torque and the number of turns in power spring design.
Additional Specifications: Detailed specifications for spring-powered and base-mounted reels are provided. Springs are primarily made of high-carbon steel or Type 301 stainless steel, with cables often coated with nylon for protection. Cases and drums are typically steel, with some components featuring epoxy powder or zinc coating for durability.
Procedures and Features: The ML-4575 series uses the SPIR’ATOR prestressed power spring, designed to be tamper-proof when mounted. These reels are compact, lightweight, and feature stainless steel cables, offering custom terminations and available in coated and uncoated options.
Dimensions and Part Numbers: Various part numbers with specifications, including dimensions, cable lengths, and retraction forces, are listed. For example, the ML-1547 has a retraction force of 15 lbs and a cable length of 126 inches, mounted using a bracket.
Performance Data: Graphs illustrate the relationship between cable extension and pull force, highlighting performance during extending and retracting phases.
Recommendations and Limitations: Users are advised to conduct their own tests to determine product suitability for specific applications, as AMETEK Hunter Spring cannot guarantee accuracy or suitability due to external factors. Specifications are subject to change without notice.
Standards: The manufacturer is ISO 9001 registered, ensuring adherence to quality management standards.

NEG’ATOR® Constant Force Extension Springs for force output The NEG’ATOR Constant Force Spring represents the most basic, yet most versatile, type of constant force springs. It is a prestressed flat strip of spring material which is formed into virtually constant radius coils around itself or on a drum. When deflected, the spring material straightens as it leaves the drum. This straightened length of spring actually stores the spring’s energy through it’s tendency to assume its natural radius. • Low force gradient over entire deflection range • Extremely long linear extensions possible • Maximum...

Custom Power Springs SPIR’ATOR® Prestressed Power Spring Overview The SPIR’ATOR prestressed spiral Power Spring is produced by reverse winding a NEG’ATOR on an arbor and enclosing it in a case. Rotational energy can be obtained from either the arbor or case or, when linear motion is required, through use of a pulley and cable attachment. With torque and deflection being equal, a SPIR’ATOR generally requires 20% less space than a power spring. Torque and the total number of turns are the most important output requirements in a power spring design. The performance of the spring is defined by the...
