MTC 80 Temperature controller Application The Alfa Laval MTC 80 temperature controller can be used with Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers, heaters and other steam or thermal oil heaters, for heating of, for example, mineral oils. The controller regulates a motor driven regulating valve in order to keep the heated oil at a constant temperature. The MTC 80 temperature controller is a highly versatile singleloop controller contained in a robust field-mounting housing. There is no need to fit an expensive instrument panel when installing or upgrading process equipment. The MTC 80 can be rapidly commissioned by simply fixing it to any flat surface and making the electrical connections via the cable entry glands on the underside of the unit. Due to IP66/NEMA4X water/dust protection the MTC 80 can be mounted right next to your process, no matter how harsh the environment. Function The electronic temperature controller receives temperature signals from a temperature sensor and automatically adjusts the heater load via a regulating valve until a preset, oil temperature is reached. Input from a second temperature sensor is used for monitoring the set temperature limits, and an alarm indication is given when limits are exceeded. MTC 80 temperature controller. In addition to controlling the temperature, the MTC 80 program also: • Checks for alarm conditions and shuts off the heat when necessary. • Runs test routines to check that the unit is operating correctly.
