NITRIDING TECHNOLOGY MADE IN LUXEMBOURG Plasma Metal S.A. was founded in 1984 in Luxembourg. Plasma Metal S.A. is since a sy- nonym for innovation and new technologies. Plasma Metal is the inventor of the novel and patented "active screen plasma nitriding technology" (ASPN) which becomes more and more popular for plasma based nitriding. A novel plasma based coating technology WITH THE ACTIVE SCREEN, THE PARTS TO BE NITRIDED ARE NO LONGER DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO THE PLASMA The hot wall furnace improved the heating up procedure. Unfortunately, most difficulties inherent to the process remain,...
Open the catalog to page 2FUNCTIONS OF THE "ACTIVE SCREEN The illustration shows the "ACTIVE SCREEN", which is installed inside of a fourfold heat shield which constitutes the hot wall of the vessel and surrounds all the parts to be nitrided. The grid has two essential roles to play. • Firstly, the screen is heated by the plasma and then evenly transmits heat to the parts. - radiation heat - The heating is done inside the chamber. • Secondly, the "ACTIVE SCREEN" produces all necessary active and neutral particles necessary to nitride steels, titanium and its alloys. To take best advantage of the ni- triding gases,...
Open the catalog to page 3The process is controlled by a PLC, which at all time monitors the functions and enables the process to be run fully inside the vacuum chamber, which brings an optimised use of the energy brought to the system from outside, thus the highest possible efficiency of the nitrider is achieved. For example, the heating and cooling time for a 350 kg load is usually 200 - 240 minutes, with a typical gas consumption of 150 nl/h during the nitriding process. The pumping group is calculated to never exceed 20 minutes before the nitriding cycle can start. According to the utilised gas mixes the system...
Open the catalog to page 4The equipment is environmentally friendly and does no harm to nature. No toxic salts or gases, no ammonia is used. The "ACTIVE SCREEN" technology is very new. But machines have now been delivered to many industries and commercial heat treaters all over the world who are now experiencing the economic benefits over conventional plasma nitriding It has been well recognised that plasma-based processes not only can effectively reduce energy consumption, but also significantly reduce the amount the gas used and hazard emission. By way of example, Table 1 indicates that the gas used and the...
