FUNCTIONS OF THE "ACTIVE SCREEN The illustration shows the "ACTIVE SCREEN", which is installed inside of a fourfold heat shield which constitutes the hot wall of the vessel and surrounds all the parts to be nitrided. The grid has two essential roles to play. • Firstly, the screen is heated by the plasma and then evenly transmits heat to the parts. - radiation heat - The heating is done inside the chamber. • Secondly, the "ACTIVE SCREEN" produces all necessary active and neutral particles necessary to nitride steels, titanium and its alloys. The process is controlled by a PLC, which at all time monitors the functions and enables the process to be run fully inside the vacuum chamber, which brings an optimised use of the energy brought to the system from outside, thus the highest possible efficiency of the nitrider is achieved. For example, the heating and cooling time for a 350 kg load is usually 200 - 240 minutes, with a typical gas consumption of 150 nl/h during the nitriding process.
