Though widely accepted, RS-232 has limited transmission speed, range, and networking capabilities. The RS-422 and RS-485 standards overcome those limitations by using differential voltage lines for data and control signals. The BSC3153i converter lets you to take advantage of RS-422 and RS-485 on systems originally equipped with RS-232. Two independent RS-485 output channels have their own driver which can transmit signals over 1.2km distance on each channel thus each channel can be connected to a separate serial network. You do not need to change your PC's hardware or your software. The BSC3153i lets you easily build an industrial grade, long distance communication system with standard PC hardware. They extend the communication distance by 1.2km (4kft) or increase the maximum number of connected nodes by 32.
