Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are designed for environments where manned entry is permitted. They feature operator-controlled steering and spoil removal, with interchangeable cutter heads that can be accessed and maintained underground.
- Operator station controls TBM steering and spoil removal, with constant monitoring of spoil conditions and line and grade accuracy.
- Hydraulic motors drive the inner drum and cutter face, eliminating the need for high voltage electricity.
- Steering joint allows full articulation and hydraulic steering in any direction.
- Equipped with a methane gas detection system for safety.
- Standard cutter heads include dirt, carbide, and sand shelves, with optional closed face attachment for unstable ground conditions.
- Torque wings provide an anti-roll function.
- Models range from 48SC to 960B, with varying wall thickness, pipe ID, and cutting diameters.
- Maximum operating pressure is 2,800 psi.
