Introduction
Mechanical counterbalance devices often introduce unwanted friction in vertical positioning systems. Airpel® Anti-Stiction® cylinders from Airpot Corporation address this issue with a unique internal design that minimizes friction, allowing precise control of counter-force to negate driver mass effects.
Specifications and BenefitsAirpel cylinders feature a graphite-piston and borosilicate-glass
cylinder combination, ensuring extremely low friction and high sensitivity to forces as low as a few grams and pressures below 0.2 psi. They offer consistent performance across a wide temperature range (-67°F to 302°F) and do not require seals or lubricants, preventing contamination and leakage. The cylinders support strokes up to 1 meter and are suitable for high cycle rates without overheating.
Applications
Airpel cylinders are ideal for metrology and testing equipment, CMM probe head drive counterbalancing, XYZ gantry applications, precise tensioning systems, and high throughput assembly equipment. They provide increased performance, lower costs, and enhanced safety in power-off situations.
Technical Information
Operating pressure ranges from <0.2 psi to 100 psi, with output forces between 0.093 to 701 lbs. Friction is maintained at 1% – 2% of the load, ensuring smooth operation. The cylinders are also compatible with positioning sensors.
Additional Products and ServicesAirpot Corporation also manufactures precision air dashpots, snubbers, pneumatic
actuators, and Airpel-AB air bearing actuators. They offer custom solutions and value-added sub-assembly services.
