Characteristics:
BALTEK® SB is a structural balsa core material known for its high strength and stiffness to weight ratios. It bonds well with various resins and adhesives and is resistant to temperature changes, fire, and chemicals like styrene. Processing:
It can be processed through adhesive bonding, compression molding, contact molding, pre-preg processing, resin injection, and vacuum infusion.
Typical Properties:
  • Apparent nominal density ranges from 94 to 247 kg/m³ (5.9 to 15.4 lb/ft³).
  • Compressive strength ranges from 6.3 to 26.3 N/mm² (917 to 3813 psi).
  • Tensile strength ranges from 7.4 to 23.5 N/mm² (1073 to 3413 psi).
  • Shear strength ranges from 1.8 to 4.9 N/mm² (262 to 712 psi).
  • Thermal conductivity at room temperature ranges from 0.048 to 0.084 W/m.K (0.331 to 0.581 BTU.in/ft².hr.°F).
Standard Sheet Dimensions:
Standard sheets are 609.6 mm by 1219.2 mm (24 in by 48 in) with thicknesses ranging from 4.7 to 76 mm (0.1875 to 3 in). ContourKore sheets have similar dimensions but thicknesses range from 4.7 to 50 mm (3/16 to 2 in).
