Product catalog summary
Product Overview
The Boeing 737-200 and 727 series cockpit doors are manufactured using HJ1 S-2 Glass®/phenolic composite laminates over an aluminum honeycomb. This design provides a cost-effective, secure system with excellent rigidity, fire, smoke, and toxicity (FST) performance, as well as ballistic resistance.

Specifications
- Product: Boeing 727 and 737 series cockpit door
- Process: Compression molding in phenolic resin
- Providers: Quiet Wing Security Systems (WA, USA), M.C. Gill Corporation (CA, USA), Fiber Materials Inc. (ME, USA)

Case History
Quiet Wing Security Systems (QWSS) received STC approval from the US and Canada for Boeing 727 and 737 series aircraft in April 2003. By August 2003, several hundred Boeing aircraft had been upgraded for over a dozen operators in North America. Certification for A300 and A310 is anticipated.

Material Selection
QWSS specified Gillfab® 1394 from M.C. Gill due to its light weight, strength, high temperature resistance, and ballistic efficiency. Over 100 shooting tests to NIJ 0101.04 Level IIIA were conducted with zero failures. Flammability, smoke, and heat release tests met FAR 25 standards.

Features and Benefits
- Ballistic Performance: Proven performance, used by the US military since 1989.
- Moisture Resistance: Maintains performance under all conditions.
- High Temperature Performance: Fire resistance is excellent, passing FAR 25-833d requirements.
- Strength and Toughness: Passes FAA 300J impact tests without additional structural support.
- Processing: Uses regular E-glass GRP composite technology, requiring no special investments.
- Machinability: Easy to machine and repair without special tools.
