Product catalog summary

Fiberglass Continuous Filament Yarn for the Electrical Industry

I. Description
Fiberglass yarn is a continuous filament yarn, twisted on various supply packages. It is made of high stability and durability glass, meeting ASTM D 578-00 standards for 'E' glass. The yarn is inorganic, incombustible, and does not expand or contract with moisture changes. It is flexible and does not absorb moisture.

II. Use
The yarns are used for fabrication processes such as plying, winding, braiding, heat cleaning, and coating. They are also used in electrical applications like braiding on wire and cable.

III. Yarn Nomenclature
Yarn names describe the product but do not indicate true yield. The actual yield must be obtained from the table in Section V.

IV. General Information
Yarns are twisted onto plastic bobbins designed for smooth runout. The bobbins have controlled geometry to maintain performance, with specific undercut allowances.

V. Available Products and Bare Glass Properties
This section lists various product names, their sizing, and bare glass yield properties. It includes nominal, minimum, and maximum yards per pound and tex values.

VI. Additional Physical Properties
Details on tensile strength, moisture content, and test methods for physical properties are provided. Owens Corning test methods are used, with a transition to ASTM methods planned.

VII. Visual Properties
Products must be free of defects such as dirt, grease, or broken filaments. Visual tolerance guidelines are provided for protruding ends, loops, and build quality.

VIII. Packaging Weight and Metering Data
Average package weight is informational. Packages are splice-free, with metered and non-metered materials packaged separately. Metering tolerance is plus 3%.

IX. Package Description
Packaging uses returnable plastic or wooden pallets. Further details are available in AGY Document AGY-PD1.

X. Preparation for Shipment
Packages are identified by discs and packed to ensure protection during transit. Each carton is labeled to identify contents.

Document History
Changes to strand solids and additions to product listings are noted, with authors and dates provided.

FIBERGLASS CONTINUOUS FILAMENT YARN FOR THE ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY-1

Customer Acceptance Standard No. Date: Supersedes: Page: FIBERGLASS CONTINUOUS FILAMENT YARN FOR THE ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY DESCRIPTION Fiberglass yarn is a natural, lustrous, white, continuous filament yarn, which is twisted on various supply packages. The yarns are smooth, non-cellular and generally cylindrical in form. The yarns are made of glass of high stability and durability and are with the exception of sizing ingredients, inorganic, incombustible and will neither expand nor contract with moisture changes. The glass composition meets the certification for “E” glass as defined by ASTM’s D 578-00 Standards Specification for Glass Fiber Strands. The individual glass fibers do not tend to absorb moisture and are extremely flexible. The sizing may be burned off the yarn under certain conditions. Weathering tests have indicated comparatively unlimited stability under repeated cycles of heat, cold, sunlight, dampness and drying. USE These yarns are used for further fabrication, plying, winding, braiding, heat cleaning, heat treating, coating and impregnating of sleeving and tubings and banding tapes. OR For braiding and serving on wire and cable and magnet wire and other miscellaneous electrical applications. This specification is subject to change without notice.
