AGY947 DirectSized E-Glass Yarn Through Reduced AGY's new 947 Direct Sized E-Glass yarns are designed to give higher strength than standard E-Glass yarns in applications that performance from a low cost fiber glass input. Building on its experience with its S-2 Glass® direct-sized products, woven into fabric and used in composite applications without additional finishing. 947 E-Glass direct sized yarn consists of numerous DE-filament (6 micron) continuous glass strands, twisted to form yarns and treated with a thermally stable inorganic sizing for high- temperature matrices. Yarns produced with the new 947 sizing have significantly higher tensile strengths than their counterpart E-Glass yarns coated with traditional oil and starch sizes. And, because fabrics made from 947-coated yarns need not undergo the damaging heat treatments or other cleaning processes that can erode fabric integrity, they can contribute considerably more strength to the composite materials into which they are incorporated. •Enhanced strength by reducing fabric processing steps. • Better fiber toughness and impact deformation than conventional glass fiber. • Excellent tolerance to damage fiber damage during processing. • Quick wet-out (penetration of resin into the strand). • Low solids facilitates comingling and hybridization with other reinforcements like thermoplastic or carbon fibers. RESIN COMPATIBILITY •Phenolic • Cyanate Ester • Polyimide • Polyamide AGY's 947 E-Glass yarn is designed to be used in lightweight fiber glass fabrics requiring improved •Aircraft Interiors • Lightweight Composite Sandwich • Delivers 40% more strength in composite laminates than conventional E-Glass fiber, enabling weight reduction. • Improved impact capabilities in finished parts and higher damage tolerance. •The ability of composite parts to with stand high levels of tension and flexural fatigue without catastrophic failure. • Faster, more efficient processing. tolerance, as well as material cost reduction. • Facilitates molding with high temperature thermoplastics.
