Product catalog summary
Overview
AGY's S-2 Glass® yarn is a high-strength fiber designed for demanding reinforcement applications. It is used in composite hybrids and structural laminates, particularly in woven and braided markets. Common applications include wire insulation, high-performance sails, snowboards, and skis.
Product Solutions
S-2 Glass fibers offer a combination of strength, impact resistance, stiffness, radar transparency, and temperature and fatigue resistance. They are lighter than conventional glass fibers and more cost-effective than aramid and carbon fibers. These fibers meet MIL-Y-114OH specifications.
Product Description
The yarn consists of G-filament (9 micron) continuous glass strands, twisted and treated with sizing compatible with epoxies or polyesters. It is suitable for weaving and braiding processes.
Features and Benefits
  • 85% more tensile strength than conventional glass fiber.
  • Improved impact capabilities and durability.
  • High temperature stability with a softening point of 1056°C.
  • 25% more linear-elastic stiffness than conventional glass fiber.
  • Excellent damage tolerance and radar transparency.
  • Long shelf life and good machinability.
Packaging
The yarn is available in various package sizes, with specific dimensions and weights provided. Each pallet contains 216 packages, with a typical truckload carrying 40 pallets.
Available Products
Two yarn types are available: SCG75 and SCG150, each with specific twist, diameter, and yield characteristics.
Glass Composition
Reference standards include AMS 3832A, ASTM C 162-90, and ISO 2078. The solids content ranges from 0.20% to 1.29%.
