Product catalog summary
Overview
OverFlood is a specialized software application designed for managing flood waves through the automatic operation of dam outlet works. It operates on a dedicated PC connected to a server hosting OverDam and SQL DB software for enhanced security and computational efficiency.
Components
  • CCP – Flood Prediction Centre: This software calculates incoming flood waves using pluviometric data and a mathematical model that considers reservoir shape and soil characteristics. It continuously monitors rain-station data and processes it when thresholds are exceeded, displaying results as flow versus time diagrams.
  • CLP – Flood Control Centre: This application processes predictions from CCP to generate reliable flood wave configurations. It helps determine optimal dam floodway settings, providing engineers with viable flood control options.
  • FloodMan: A training tool that simulates virtual flood wave scenarios for dam engineers. It operates offline and does not consider real-time parameters, offering a safe environment for practical flood control training.
System Requirements
  • Processor: Pentium IV or AMD equivalent
  • Operating System: Windows 2000, NT, XP Professional SP2
  • RAM: 512 MB

OVERFLOOD-1

OverFlood is a powerful software application specifically developed for flood wave control by automatic operation of the dam outlet works. Because of the high level calculations required and for security reasons the software runs on a dedicated PC connected on line to a server where two other specific pieces of software – OverDam and SQL DB – are located. The OverFlood package is made of the three following applications: 1. CCP – Flood Prediction Centre (or CCP 1st phase) 2. CLP – Flood Control Centre (or CCP 2nd phase) 3. FloodMan 1 CCP Software calculates the flood wave approaching the dam as a function of acquired pluviometric data and interacts with a specifically developed mathematical model, which takes into account essential parameters such as reservoir shape and soil characteristics. He control panel for the CCP process is always activated (for configuration of threshold, rain-meter and alarm parameters), whereas interrogation of rain-stations takes place at predetermined intervals (e.g. 1 hour). Whenever the rain-meter parameters are exceeded, rainfall data enters the mathematical model, is processed, stored in the database and then displayed as a diagram, flow versus time. 2 CLP software is always ready and active to process the flood wave predicted by the CCP. Depending on the type and shape of outlet works, reliable predictions of controlled flood waves can be made. By generating alternative flood wave configurations the software can predict the optimal settings for the dam floodway works in order to offer the engineer viable options for flood control. 3 FloodMan Software was developed as a training tool to simulate a virtual flood wave to be controlled by opening the outlet works. This exercise for the dam engineer, being offline, does not take into account such vital parameters as rainfalls, reservoir conditions, outlet works, and the dam’s overall conditions. However it does provide excellent practical instruction in flood control in a safe environment.
