Product catalog summary
Introduction
AstroCel® I filters are high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) and ultra-low penetration air (ULPA) filters designed for environments requiring stringent contamination control, such as semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and hospitals. These filters are available with antimicrobial options to enhance indoor air quality by trapping particulate contaminants, including fungal and bacterial spores.
Specifications
AstroCel I filters meet various performance classes as per the Institute of Environmental Sciences & Technology (IEST) RP-1 standards, ranging from Type A to Type F, with efficiencies from 99.97% to 99.9995% for particles as small as 0.1 micrometers. They are also compliant with ASME AG-1 standards for nuclear applications.
Performance and Testing
Each filter is individually tested for efficiency and assigned a serial number. Testing includes PAO and laser tests for overall efficiency and scan testing for leak detection. Filters are UL classified, ensuring they meet HEPA filtration standards under various environmental conditions.
Construction and Materials
AstroCel I filters are available in various materials, including wood and metal, with options for high-temperature applications. They feature a polyurethane bond to prevent leakage and corrugated aluminum separators for optimal media usage. The filters are designed with wedge-shaped pleats to minimize media damage.
High Capacity Options
The AstroCel I HCX filters offer higher airflow capacity and longer service life compared to standard HEPA filters, with efficiencies of 99.97% and 99.99% for 0.3 micrometer particles. They are suitable for installations requiring higher airflow and cost savings.
Installation and Maintenance
AstroCel I filters can be installed in various systems, including side access housings and Bag In/Bag Out units. Prefilters are recommended to extend the life of HEPA filters, with MERV 15 filters significantly increasing filter longevity.
Conclusion
AstroCel I filters provide reliable and efficient air filtration solutions for critical environments, with a range of options to meet specific application needs. Their robust testing and construction ensure high performance and compliance with industry standards.

The media pack is thoroughly sealed to the inside of the cell sides with a variety of adhesives that prevent bypass leakage around the pack. The sealant totally encapsulates the media edges, closing off all leak paths. Pleat spacing is precisely maintained by corrugated aluminum separators that permit maximum usage of the media at minimum resistance. For corrosive environments, vinyl coated separators are available. Close-up photo shows how the polyurethane bond, standard on most AstroCel I filters, encapsulates the pack, eliminating voids. Rolled edge separators are used to minimize the risk...

Extend AstroCel ® I Life with Prefilters No HEPA filter installation should ever be operated without prefilters. AAF has a broader selection of prefilters than any other manufacturer – from roughing filters, to automatic roll filters, to pleated filters, to extended surface filters. AAF strongly recommends two stages of prefilters in front of HEPA filter installations. AAF tests have shown that prefilters greatly extend the life of HEPA filters. The higher the efficiency of the prefilters, the longer the life of the AstroCel I filters. MERV 15 filters can extend HEPA filter life nearly nine times....
