Introduction Conveyor chains, whether they are roller or cast in construction, are found today in virtually every industry. General guidelines for selecting conveyor chains When selecting conveyor chains for a particular application, there are a number of factors that should be considered. These i nclude, but are not limited to, the following: • Working load (chain pull) • Chain speed • Pitch requirement (particularly important for attachment chains such a elevators) • Type and spacing of attachment (if any) • Chain length (centres), or lengths for multistrand applications • Lubrication (type and method of application) • Environmental issues (such as dirt, t emperature extremes, chemicals, contamination, hygiene...

• Temperature (elevated) (FT). Where there are high ambient temperatures the load carrying capacity of the chain should be reduced, especially if temperatures exceed 160˚C (320˚F). If temperatures are particularly high, special materials may have to be considered.
